After listining to last month's Kaijucast...it got me thinking that maybe we should have a thread devoted to the series that started it all...hopefully August will have some news to share with us from time to time

::EDIT:: August was discussing Ultra Q's Blu-Ray production already on another thread. But by all means, you have something to bring to the table go for it!

Love this show. Wish it would get a US DVD release.

We were talking about Ultra Q on the Ultra Galaxy forum...but as to my knowledge it doesn't have it's own forum...

I have never seen any of these episodes to be honest. I know there are some out there but they aren't subbed or dubbed so I'm holding out in hope of a subbed Ultra Q blu ray in the near future or even an American release.

Also...I'm surprised they haven't attempted to make another Ultra Q series for TV since Dark Fantasy...or ya know, finally give Kaneko a chance to helm a movie version of the series he loves so much

That would be nice, who knows what the future may hold.

I am a huge Ultra Q fan. I love how each episode has it's own opening credit sequence, and that theme song. MAN, probably the most catchy song ever written.

For those who have the DVDs for the series but are lost as to the narrative -I found that 'The Q Files' can be a great help to get the basic gist of each episode.

Looks like I will be ordering this series a second time. I can't even imagine how it would look in color. As for subtitles, I sincerely think that Tsuburaya listens to it's fans so I wouldn't see it as that outlandish. We just have to get on Mike Verta's good side and have him nag Tsuburaya to sub it. Worked for the Ultra Galaxy film.... :D

BTW, Flame's above link to the Kaiju Fan episode guide brings back memories. I got Ultra Q when it first hit DVD and used the guide in the magazine to follow along. Great stuff.

I've probably said this before... even with whatever moral qualms about the origin of the materials for this release, this is my MOST anticipated tokusatsu release ever.

AND Pegira (Peguila) FTW... my favorite Ultra Kaiju in my favorite Ultra Q episode (has a bit of that Lovecraft/At the Mountains of Madness/Campbell/The Thing feel to it). I have this mini diorama but packed in a box somewhere so am stealing this pic offa ebay for reference.

what a fantastic figure

Pegila is also my favorite ULTRA Q monster.....

That the problem with the new show....its good but it lack kaiju....

ULTRA Q DARK FANTASY had more kaiju and homage to the original...

Hope somebody will subtitle it someday

As you can tell (I created this thread a while back after all) I've been kind of obsessed with Ultra Q for some time. Can't wait to finally see it! I can't believe what a age we live in, I'll own legit, legal-ish, copies of my 5 favorite toku series (Ultra Q, Ultraman, Ultraseven, Kikaider and Kamen Rider V3).

Monster-wise, it's funny, I used to be really into Gomess...BUT lately, man, it's all about Peguila :D

Pegira high fives all around!
I'm also fond of Pagos (Baragon in a previous life).

Finally bit the bullet and bought the X-Plus "Large Monsters" series Pegira.

Received an email from Amazon saying the dvd set is being released on August 13th.

http://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Q-The-Compl ... ds=ultra+q

I can't find the other thread that was discussing the release (we can't search topics only?). When this originally ran it was in B&W, so where did the talk of a colorized version of the show originate? Was it something Shout! was undertaking, or did it already exist and Shout! just doesn't have the license for it?

The amazon page says its in full color but the first comment says its not.

Ultra Q was colorized a couple of years ago. But the amazon description is incorrect, Shout!Factory's set is in black and white.

Here's the thread on the DVD release.

Does anyone here have the Japanese Blu-ray from a few years back?

that's nothing. I have a friend who has three more English dubbed Ultra Q episodes on 16mm film, and they look amazing.

I would love to have some film elements in 35mm. The Shout Factory release does not look as good as the Japanese transfer.

I've finished the first disc of Shout's set and am really enjoying this show.

The spooky tone and black and white photography (coupled with the fact that these are basically half hour long Toho monster movies) makes it kind of irresistible, but I think Grow Up, Little Turtle is the first truly brilliant episode I've seen. It has the playful surrealism and directorial slickness that the best episodes of Ultraman had.
