I thought about making this forever ago, but how would you do the Godzilla 2014 film?
As for myself I'd pick an American living in Japan as the main-ish character. He decided to be adventurous and live abroad but things haven't really been going his way. The build up for Godzilla would be similar to what we're used to: Mysterious incidents at sea and the like. At the same time an offshore drilling rig suddenly hits something they can't quite comprehend. The ocean is flooded with a black oil. Now, I came up with this idea before Prometheus, so before people cry "rip off" get yer facts straight. I stole it from the X-Files. The character we have here is Lady Biologist that will be called in study it and its effects. The black oil begins to mutate some of the sea life. Resulting in all sorts of bizarre creatures that start out small and then some larger beasties appear. The downside of this bizarre mutagen is that it doesn't seem to work on mammals. It just kills them, or us when we come into contact with it. Godzilla finally makes landfall in Japan and begins moving along the coast. The military tries to drive Godzilla away but it doesn't work. Godzilla ends up remaining in the city and is sort of standing his ground and sticking with what he considers his territory. The key to both of these events is that the explanations aren't going to be perfect. The horror is that suddenly mankind is being faced with ridiculous circumstances that shouldn't be possible, but are happening all around them.
So, eventually the source of the oil arises, and it'd be a new kaiju. I'd probably make it some kind of mix of sea life and the like, and it'd have the ability to fly. Anyway, this thing arises and starts flying towards Japan. Inevitably the new kaiju comes into contact with Godzilla. The two tussle and it gets the better of Godzilla. The military takes this opportunity to blast the hell out of Godzilla till he's little more than a pile of Godzilla parts. The biologist would have turned out to have been a friend of the reporter. She and He would have at one time been close friends and maybe had romantic feelings, but they didn't really ever date. So that's the relationship here. The two of them follow each of the kaiju up to the tussle in Tokyo or wherever. So yeah.
The new creature heads south, and flies over Taiwan. The creature is attacked and ends up being driven north before landing in Taipei. The reports coming in from Taiwan are terrible. People are either dying from general exposure to the creature's toxin or from its offspring. Biologist Lady McSciencePants wants to head into the area as a tag along on one of several rescue missions that are being organized to save the dwindling population. Man McReporterface goes with her as well because he's not going to let the relationship pass him by again of somesuch nonsense. Almost as soon as they leave, Godzilla's corpse begins to stir. It has spent the last day or so regenerating and awakens with a fury. The JSDF is taken unawares and Godzilla is soon on his way.
When our heroes arrive in Taipei specifically, they see the damage. Dead fill the streets and all sorts of creepy crawlers of all sorts of sizes exist. Okay, so this is my justification for the black toxin/oil/ooze/party time goo. It is a crazy ass magick horror substance. If the audience buys into it and its properties, then we can have a world full of kaiju. This also makes it eaasssyyy to add in guys like Kamacuras, Kumonga, Ebirah, Kamoeba, Gezora, Ganime, Oodako, Giant Condor, and even some of the monsters like Varan or Manda which you can fudge a little bit and say "Oh...they were a lizard or a snake.." I'd populate the city with probably a couple of giant spiders colored like Kumonga, maybe some Shokilas, Ganime, Giant Condor (just cuz) and probably something a little more classically Toho like Varan. The whole thing is sneaking into the city and trying to get to the refugees who have been told to make it to a specific location. Turns out, this location is the building that the new kaiju is perching on. In the meantime I think we'd have Godzilla tussle with the wake of monstrosities that this new kaiju has left in his wake. Maybe have Godzilla fight Gezora or a giant shark...because...we haven't had one of those.
Anyhow, Godzilla eventually makes it to Taipei and is pretty much ready to kick the new Kaiju's ass for having beat him up in Tokyo. The battle would be drag out crazy pants. I'm imagining the humans getting the caravan of refugees out of the center of the city while a battling and dodging these smaller kaiju while at the same time Godzilla and the new kaiju are rolling through buildings and shooting off beams and the like. Unwittingly, Godzilla buys them enough time to mostly make it to the boat or whatever, and Godzilla manages to kill the kaiju just before it sinks its bloody self into the ocean to create one last brood of monsters. The bottom line here is that Taipei, and much of upper half of Taiwan has been infected by vast amounts of the toxin. The ecosystem is pretty much crazy and these new monsters are taking over at an astonishing rate. The idea here is that the Government would basically write off Taiwan. I don't care how unrealistic that is, but I want this to have forcibly become a monster island. Anyway, back to the story. Godzilla, despite his victory over the new kaiju, is met with an armada of ships which start firing on him. Godzilla moves deftly on the ships and starts blasting them or even just trying to turn them over or sink them. The film would end with him roaring in victory before continuing his massacre of the boats.
The End.
I wish I had written this when I was a bit less exhausted, but hopefully you guys get the gist of this and share some of your own pitches for the film. You know...for fun.
