If there is one Godzilla movie I want a remake too, its this one. King Kong & Gojira are my two favorite monster movies of all time and mixing the two together is a brilliant idea.
Unfortunately, this movie doesn't take the material as seriously as I would have liked. Its a very kid friendly and silly movie. That's fine in a lot of ways as parts of it are legitimately funny. Mr. Tako has got to be one of the goofiest characters ever featured in a Godzilla film, but he's a riot. I just wish two of the most famous movie monsters of all time in color for the first time would have been treated with a more serious tone (like the next film was). I also have major misgivings about the look of the Kong suit which was down right awful.
One other nitpick, I hate the inconsistency created with Godzilla & electricity. In the first film, he was immune to it, but here, it actually hurts him. Now I like that they gave Kong the power of getting strength from electricity, but making Godzilla a complete wuss in the face of it makes no sense.
The things I did like: The Kong/Godzilla fights, particularly the ending one, are great. The music was great (love the Kong tribal chant) and to be honest, despite the terrible look of the suit, it is one of my favorite portrayals of Kong's character. I mean the essence of King Kong is pretty much in tact while Godzilla is just a destructive powerhouse, which is fun.
So yes, its a good & fun entry, but I wish it'd been presented more seriously given the monster star power involved. That's why I would like to see this remade...but lets get real. NEVER gonna happen!
