At least as far as the North American rights go, Paramount currently controls the home video destiny of Transformers: The Movie. It's weird I know, you'd think Paramount would only have influence over the live action movies, but something about the way Hasbro worked out the contract gives Paramount control of the 1985 movie.
Someone was asking about Shout Factory getting the 1985 movie on their forums some weeks ago and Brian Ward confirmed that Paramount had the rights.
It's really too bad as I'd love to pick-up Transformers: The Movie -- I have Rhino's 2000 release of the movie but I missed out on picking up the 20th Anniversary release from Sony a few years ago and I'm not in a hurry to plunk down $40-$50 to get it.
Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?
