As usual, Kain's remarks are simply mind-boggling. Have we even touched on the quality of the screenplays? The scripts for the Showa films may not have been Shakespeare-caliber, but on the whole, they were pretty lively and nicely put-together. There was always some heart and soul involved in virtually every aspect of the productions. Once the series reached the '90s, however, there was nothing of the sort. There were lots of cool ideas that ended up going nowhere and mostly surrounded by characters and plotlines that are comparatively...well, awful. They're very poorly conceived and executed. There is FAR less creative energy and effort there, and it shows...a lot. There is absolutely no valid argument, aside from perhaps the level of enjoyment one gets on a purely subjective level, to support the Heisei films as being superior to the Showa in any conceivable way.
