Death Kappa...ah...where to begin...well let's see

Pros:
Interesting kaiju fight scene

And um...that's about it...

Cons:
Too much of a paraody of Showa kaiju films...strings are highly visible on planes and helicopters ect...

The human drama is non-sensical and absurd but not so much so that it becomes an enjoyable train wreck like Monster X was for me...

There is more of a workable plot I suppose in this film than in Monster X in the fact that there is almost a plot that has a begining, middle and end but it's just so..meh...that I found myself surfing the internet while watching this movie

I might be jaded a little here because even though I saw Monster X this morning as well and slightly found it entertaining I've reached my BS level with all of these kaiju parodys...I'm tired of seeing shoddy looking suits and horrible special effects from modern films like this...I want some more Gamera 3, or Gamera the Brave or Ultraman the Next...I'm kind of sick of this strictly tounge and cheek movement that's been prevelant the last few years

Well, watched it last night as part of a 3 movie night with my wife(DK, Gehara, and Beauty and the Beast).

It was ok. I thought it was better than Monster X Strikes Back... and that's about it. The beginning scenes were actually pretty amusing(Kappa dancing etc.)... my wife loved it. BUT, when they were in the cave, it just completely sucked balls. The whole cave scene was horrible(until Kappa came). The "atomic bomb explosion" scene was the biggest piece of crap I've ever seen though... wtf was that? lol

The Hangulas(sp?) destruction scene was good... and redeemed the movie imo. It was just awesome to see a new monster, destroying the city. The humans too action figure things was pretty dumb though.... Then we eventually got to the Death Kappa vs Hangulas battle. The battle was actually pretty good, and very amusing. After the fight, Death Kappa turned into a "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" to humanity and started massive destruction(most of it we don't see....)... and the way they defeat the Kappa is by having the main character girl sing Kappas favorite song... he then goes to the ocean peacefully. THE END

Overall... it's a fun movie, that has definate flaws but more positive then negative I think. I also thought FINAL WARS was a fun movie, but DEATH KAPPA makes FINAL WARS look like a masterpiece. lol

An acquaintance and yokai expert produced this short for National Geographic online.
Nice little segment but that's not him narrating, as he knows how to pronounce (and speak) Japanese. :roll:

Finally watched it. Complete garbage as reported earlier. They tried way to hard and so it was not even funny. Like many others I am sure, I would have liked a straight film using the same older style techniques without all the over the top flaws such as the wires and the action figure stand ins and all that. Retro Style is way cool if its not made to look stupid on purpose. It should not look worse then it did back then. I did not really find any thing funny about it at all really. It was just an awkward film. No Kaiju film that I can think of was this awkward. Not even close. So whats the point? I don't get it. Even if they were, who cares? Its still not funny. And I thought Final Wars was awkward. I am going to go watch that to get over Death Kappa.

Wait, you're going to watch FINAL WARS to try to "get over" DEATH KAPPA? Seriously? Watching something equally awful (or worse) doesn't make much sense to me, but to each his own.

Man, you guys are really turning me off to this movie. I don't think it's even on Netflix (and may possibly never be), so I'll just wait for an opportunity to see it somewhere down the line, and not risk wasting my money. After all, I absolutely loathed MONSTER X STRIKES BACK.

Final Wars isn't a good movie by any stretch, but there's NO WAY in hell its worse than Death Kappa.
