I would like to see Toho make a Godzilla vs. Bagan movie. Imo Bagan would be perfect for a new Godzilla movie. As far as older Monsters go I would like to see a Godzilla vs. Rodan movie. I dont buy into the idea that Rodan and Godzilla are friends I just think it would be a good movie to see.

Well, I'm thinking that the general population of movie goers are gonna accept/embrace a brooding walking engine of destruction of a levitation over a silly fake-looking over-stylized giant cartoon/super hero by now (Monster X Strikes Back, anyone?? How about Gamera 4??).

Giant monster movie-wise, it has gotten to where it's much better to root it in something closer to reality than to segregate the larger viewing audience and lose significant returns by dumping out a dated concept that really started losing its way in the late 60's. Future Godzilla movies will not benefit at all by being campy or done in the B movie vein at this point. Yeah, Godzilla '98 came and went and it BLEW IT as a Godzilla movie, but it is time to move on. Get over it. Cloverfield did just fine, didn't it? And I think that anyone with, what did Shogo Tomiyama liken it to?.... a sense of awe left in them... really appreciated the CGI representation of Godzilla in Always 2 as a vein of potential.

Hell, I'd be FINE with the next film being done with as much care as Gamera 3 or Ultraman The Next, done with the same techniques and everything!!!

If you want to cuddle your memories and nostalgia and remain there, whatever. Watch Godzilla vs. Hedorah back to back until your eyes dry out. You want a future for Godzilla, pray to God the next series is high tech and anchored in reality, at least as the series starts out (which is the pattern REALLY if you think back about it!!).

Ahhh, KK vs. G was a fluke! The 'King Kong' name being put on a movie was cashing in on a fight that everyone wanted to see that hadn't been done before. Those early movies weren't burdened by a history declining quality (as the series progressed and, ergo, could be blacklisted by fans and casual movie-goers before they EVER came out) and heck, though it wasn't stop motion it wasn't really considered B-movie effects by that time either. I think if it were anything, it was a success built on hype when these giant monster movies were still fresh and hadn't conceptually fleshed itself out yet (and consistently/traditionally limited by the $$ they could put into the effects dept).

People KNOW what to expect with Ultraman. The reason Godzilla was on the ropes was because the 'formula' ideas went dry and done to death and because the old men running Toho couldn't stretch their yen on the gamble of new and/or unique ideas, much less better FX.

I do think the Japanese audiences were a bit sick of the same old effects after awhile and maybe any version of Godzilla altogether. Especially when you consider the popularity of U.S. special effects movies over there and because Kaiju movies had been better rendered with 'Gammera 3' and 'The Next' among others. Yet, if the effects were up to par and past the b-level stage, I'm thinking that they could have STILL cashed in on formulaic crud stories (S.O.S) and perhaps way more-so with fresh ideas or (yes, I'm about to say it) a nod to the darker roots. Finally, this would only most likely work best with some space between every movie instead of one-per-year.

Why not do a Godzilla movie with all of the monsters and human characters brought to life entirely with wire-controlled puppets, a la Team America: World Police? That way nobody can moan about the effects not looking realistic.
