FINALLY Saw the Japanese KK v G

I have to get the Japanese version of King Kong vs. Godzilla. I may import the R2 in the near feature. With that, I don't hate the American version because the cheesy reporter scenes make up for it and the movie is still pretty entertaining. As for the music, I haven't heard the soundtrack but there is one piece that is used during the final battle of Kong and Godzilla that would later be heard in GODZILLA VS. KING GHIDORAH. Interestingly enough, the music used in the American version was stock music from American Sci-Fi movies. But yeah, the US version is a bit nonsensical.

heck, seeing it in 1971 at the age of six- i had NO idea who or what Godzilla or Kong were- on the big screen, when the monsters are actually HUGE, it's a life altering deal, as one might imagine!

The US version of KKvG was my first Godzilla film. I wasn't even in kindergarden yet. I knew KK because I had the original King Kong on tape.

I went over to my cousins' house and they were watching KKvG (the scene where G attacks the train)... and at that point I traded up. Your pretty cool Kong, but Godzilla is cooler.


When I came back home I asked my dad why we didn't have any Godzilla movies. The next day he came home with King Kong vs. Godzilla and Godzilla vs. Megalon on VHS!

I really need to see the original Japanese version, especially for Ifikube's original score.

I grew up knowing King Kong vs. Godzilla only by its edited US version ever since I was a little kid, and thus it remained one of my least favorite Godzilla movies for many years. I got the Toho R2 release of the film last winter and saw the film in all of its real glory for the first time. And I must say, while I believe the US version of Godzilla Raids Again holds the crown for suffering the worst Americanized mutilation of any Godzilla movie, it is King Kong vs. Godzilla which has the greatest difference in quality between its two versions. Sure, the US version of GRA is horrible, but the real version of GRA is pretty bad to begin with. King Kong vs. Godzilla, on the other hand, is a fantastic and absolutely joyous experience to behold when seen in its actual form, and is titanic bounds ahead of the positively shittacular American version in terms of both quality and entertainment.
