S.O.S. has always been my favorite of Tezuka's works because it has just enough of everything that did (SURPRISINGLY) work for his other films plus the best looking Mothra since 61. It's also a lot of fun, more so than X MechaGodzilla that seemed like he just came up with a really cool concept for a new MechaGodzilla and didn't seem to focus on anything else.

While I probably watch Tokyo SOS the most out of all the Millennium Godzilla films, I would say GxMG is actually his strongest. He at least tries to develop his characters and by the end I at least had an emotional connection with Kiryu and Akane. But the monster action in Tokyo SOS is so much better even with severe editing issues.

Yeah, I guess that is true. Even from memory I think that cast is the most developed.

Maybe I need to rewatch GxMG.

SOS is on crackle, and I was watching some of it 'tother day and it still bothers me how poorly edited the fight sequences are.

Godzilla and Mothra are fighting...all of a sudden Godzilla is sliding across the ground. When did he fall down? Why does shot "B" between "A" and "C" always seem to be missing in the action sequences in that movie?

Of course it is.

it's just frustrating, because SOS would actually be a really decent flick if not for that glaring mistake (well, and the plain and simple fact that as a sequel to GxMG, it lacks big time in the 'carrying over of the initial plot' stuff).

i know Tezuka's not popular here, but i honestly think Megaguirus is the only flat-out BAD film of the three, and the other two only frustrate me because they are SO CLOSE to being good, and would just have required minor tweaking to actually BE good.

Yeah, I hate Megaguirus, think GxMG is okay, and have a fair bit of fun watching S.O.S.

i like GxMG...I guess...I mean, it's hard to say "Like" except if I say, "In context of the millenium series."

It wouldn't make my top 10 or anything, but I often wonder if any of the Millenium films would...

GMK always does, (overrated or not), and Tokyo S.O.S. has been known to creep into it. Though as time goes on it falls lower and lower. I like it, even in the context of the whole series. *shrug* I mean, it has its weaknesses but it's not as insulting as Megaguirus or the 91-95 Heisei films.

i'd have to sit down and think about it...

i do know that i enjoy GFW more than...possibly anybody.

I like GFW more than GxMG. I'd almost forgotten about it. But I like G2k more than GFW...and I don't think many people think much of G2k but I enjoy the hell out of it.

There are very few Godzilla films I'd describe as riveting.

The original, Mothra vs. Godzilla maybe..

perhaps you're right, but the sometimes sluggish pace of g2k prevents me from ever getting caught up in it

Surprised GxM has this many votes! It's GxMG for me. SOS has the better special effects, but overall, GxMG is pretty much better in every other way.

I think if this poll had been started this year it'd have considerably less.

Especially since there's a lot of adamant haters of Megaguirus nowadays, far more than back then. I think the hate of the Millennium series was squarely focused at Final Wars, wasn't it?

Yeah...which sucks...Final Wars is a movie that I enjoy.

When it was first released, I thought of it as one of my top 3-5 Godzilla films...these days, I'm not so sure that's the case, but I can guarantee I like it better than anything from 1991-2000.

I really need to do a re-visit of the entire series sometime in the near-future here...

I think it was in my top 10, but I think from 1991-2000 Godzilla 2000 outdoes it for me. Though I'm also the only person who seems to really like that movie.
Though I think its gone down in rank I still like it a great deal. Especially since I sort of see the thing as a tounge in cheek response to Godzilla. (Ala the Adam West Batman show)
