G2KUSA "THE END" end card...

Postby G2KMaster » Fri Jul 17, 2009 5:12 am

Hope this brings back memories from 2000! And it is from a legal source.

I remembered seeing that when I first saw the movie in theaters, and then I never saw it again, and I kept thinking "Did I imagine it?"

I thought it was really cool. So obviously over-the-top hokey and pointless but neat nonetheless

Boy, it was just an emotional roller coaster after the whole Lord of the Rings choir being played of the sea of fire! :D

That is NOT the same end title card that was present in the US theatrical prints in 2000.

I remember thinking "gee, doesn't Jack Harris (the Blob, Equinox) own the trademark on those at the end of movies?" at the time.

It was white, black-outlined text in a bold, plain-looking font, and the question mark that faded in between the words was red.

Ahhh....
yeah I was 13 years old at the time, I don't readily remember things from when I was 13 all that well...

No, the lettering was in a green, cheap-looking font just like what G2K posted. I've seen this movie many, many times in theaters and also have video of the ending taken from a Sony theatrical print and the font always looked the same.. I've never seen the bold, plain-looking font you described. Mike Schlesinger also told me that one of Toho's objections was over the "cartoony" font used.

The question mark was red, and that's how it looks (to me, anyway) in the photo G2K has.

No, I'm pretty sure it is. I've seen this film in theaters three times.

I envy you...

This may seem alittle off topic, though does anyone own a VHS or a Spainish Subtitled VHS of Godzilla 2000? Because that is where the photos came from. My spainish subtitled VHS (I did not mean to get it, but it was the only copy wal-mart had of it) for some reason has it. I have talked to Mike about it and my tape doesn't seem bootleg, since it fallows a regular sony tape (try copying the sticker on a sony VHS. There is an ink print that appears).

I really don't recall an end title card. I only saw G2K once when it was released in theaters. I do remember that it felt like G-FEST because when Godzilla made his appearance people did begin to clap, I loved it!

I remember this thing, and it didn't sit right with me even back then. Now, I think I probably wouldn't have found it as goofy. I was a weird child.

Thanks for posting that. Never saw it.
I'm a fan of "?" endings, but I have to say that the "?" here looks more like the Safeway S flipped around than a ?.

Yes...

Turns out that my VHS has this ending. Baradagi's VHS has this, and some other guy on one of the six forums I visit daily has this, and yet when I asked, Sony says it is not on the VHS release. Not only is VHS still valuable if you like this but also Sony may be covering this up...

The first time I saw Godzilla 2000 was on VHS (I missed the theater run! Blah!), and the "The End?" card was not there. Thankfully my first memory of the movie was not tarnished by that.

Perhaps this is just on the Spanish subtitled tape?

PLANETXLEADER:
No, for Baradai's copy is not spainish subtitled (I asked him).

Well, I have a theory:

The VHS for the regular and Spainish Subtitled versions were pressed teo times - December 26 and May 12. The first pressing must have had the version w/o the the end card and the second pressing the one with. How do I know? My spainish subtitled copy if of the second pressing.

Really. Again, this is something better left forgotten. I had nightmares about that "The?End" image the other night, Evan. I hope you're happy. I'm sending your parents my therapy bill.
