Honestly, I never meant to offend anyone with my comments. I have just never understood the facsination with a "darker, more realistic" Godzilla movie. To an extent, I do get the picture, because the way movies are made today, and what the audiences expect nowadays, is that a film cannot be credible if it isn't realistic, or logical. And that's all fine and dandy, but there is a reason why films like Casablanca, Psycho, It's A Wonderful Life and others are considered classics. It's because the way the stories are told is believable enough, even if the stories themselves come straight from fantasyland. Godzilla is a fictional character, and I do admit, it is fun to watch Godzilla completely torch an entire city with reckless abandon (as he did in the original film), but I honestly don't think I could accept a Godzilla film where there isn't atleast one humorous kaiju moment (even G'54 has a couple). The monsters must have some character in them.
Oh, and by the way, Mothra is neither a serious character, or a campy one. She's merely a product of pure fantasy. Honestly, one of the most original concept that Toho ever came up with for a monster. That's why she's so appealing. You can agree, or not, but that's the definate truth.
