5 Favorite Millennium Scenes

Postby lhb412 » Wed Dec 13, 2006 8:05 pm

...Well, a bit longer then scenes really. More like chunks of the story. Here we go, in no particular order (other than chronological)

-The first 10 or so minutes of G2K Godzilla with the car and the tunnel, and then the ensuing rampage all the while being followed by G Prediction Network is really well done and effective. The best Godzilla rampage in the 3rd series.

-Godzilla vs. Baragon and the lead up to it The best part of the best Millinium movie. A spectacular battle, one of Godzilla's best.

-The GMK final battle on land Godzilla, Mothra, Ghidorah, and the army have a showdown in Tokyo. Unfortunetly the finale falls apart once they go into the water and Ghidorah is revived a 2nd time.

-The Begining of Tokyo SOS with Mothra I find this movie pretty lackluster, but I love the nicely staged opening, which restores a lot of coolness the big bug had lost over the years.

-Godzilla's world tour Godzilla's international monster whomping trek in GFW. Zilla, Kumonga, Kamakarus, Rodan, Angilas, and King Ceasar's defeates may seem puny on their own, but if you view the thing as one whole is extremely fun. Kamakarus' new camoflauge power is my favorite part.

-Bubbling under Godzilla's (campy) fight with Megaguirus, Godzilla being attacked by the jets in GMK, the monsters attacking the various cities in GFW (the first time), and Godzilla vs. Kaiser Ghidorah (which I love for very fan-y resons; Ghidorah is back to being Godzilla's arch enemy, and beats Godzilla untill Ozaki interviens).

- The worldwide monster attack scene in Final Wars Starting with the "Pimp" scene and ending after Ebirah is teleported away. I love watching this stretch of the movie, it's so damn exhilirating and fun!

- Baragon and Godzilla terrorzing Japan before meeting up in GMK Great build-up before the fight, with Baragon's fun appearance at the police station (followed by some cool FX shots of him tromping through the countryside), Godzilla's fantastic entrance, and the disposal of some innocent bystanders before the big battle.

- Kiryu and Godzilla's final flight in Tokyo SOS From the moment that the Shobijin announce Godzilla's return to sea to the end credits. I get tinglies all over during this stretch because it's so dramatic and well-done. Great FX, too (especially when Chujo lets go of Kiryu and narrowly misses his back plates as he falls).

- Kiryu going apeshit on Godzilla in GXMG Right after Kiryu launches his back unit and starts charging Godzilla - the resulting exchange is crazy and pretty fast-paced for a Godzilla movie.

- Most of Final War's climax From where Monster X appears to where Don Frye finishes off the female Xilian is great fun, both on the monster side of the battle and the humans. It starts to lose steam after a while, though.

That's actually kind of tough. But here is what I would say.

5) Godzilla's Gigantic Leap and Body slam on Megaguiras: Some thought this was silly, and it was, but I liked it. It's the Godzilla vs. Megalon "Super Dropkick" of our day, and it will be remembered fondly years from now I think.

4) Final Wars' Final Battle: I remember the first time I saw the movie, I went nuts when Monster X turned into Kaizer Ghidorah. That think looked bad ass! The previous action between Godzilla, Monster X, Gigan, and Mothra was pretty fun to (but boy is Gigan stupid or what?)

3) Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla and Mothra from Tokyo SOS: Visually, Tokyo SOS is the strongest Godzilla film in existence and the battle between the three kaiju superstars is a great showcase of special effects and action.

2) Godzilla appears to confront the UFO in Godzilla:2000: This might not seem like much to most fans, but G2K was the first Godzilla movie I ever saw in theatres, and when I saw Godzilla come out of the ocean with that oh so familiar Ifukube theme playing, I felt like I was five years old again. It was really special to me.

1) Climatic Battle from GMK: Godzilla takes on both King Ghidorah and Mothra with the military interfering throughout. This was an awesome scene for several reasons. Visually, its amazing. We also got great action out of too. Also, I loved seeing Godzilla just over power and destroy Mothra. In the previous encounters between the two monsters, Mothra almost always won, and even when Godzilla defeated Mothra in GvsM64, that was only because Mothra was dying to begin with. In this film, I finally got to see Godzilla squash the bug, and it made me happy. I also liked how Ghidorah became more and more powerful as the battle progressed. There is one shot during their fight where Ghidorah is in the air flying and glowing in a golden light, with Godzilla (back turned to the camera) with his spines glowing blue ready to fire. This shot is also at night, and it is really an awesome visual, if only for a few short seconds.

G2k: The scene where the UFO blasts Godzilla and he goes flying across the ocean a gazillion miles into a building....loved that scene and thought it was superbly executed.

GMK: Any scene with Baragon in it.

GMK: The battle between Godzilla and the jets....just thought it was a brilliantly filmed sequence by Higuchi (I believe the only sequence he filmed in the movie, uncredited) that added some spice to what would have normally been typical, mundane Godzilla vs fighter jets scene.

GFW: G vs GINO...not even the rather crappy "All to Blame" could ruin it. Even the most hardened GFW hater deep down found some joy in this scene.

GFW: Godzilla vs Kaizer Ghidorah. Great battle with the series ending with Godzilla battling his arch nemesis Ghidorah.

GxMG - Godzilla's First Entrance. The first scene in this movie just gives me chills to watch.

GxM - Opening Prologue/Godzilla's First Entrance. Again, another great, atmospheric entrance for the big guy. Love it!

GxM - Godzilla rises from the sea/Kiriko Rides Godzilla. So awesome! :D The main link between these three of course being Michiru Oshima's powerful Godzilla theme. Many days I find myself enjoying it more than Ifukube's classic one. ^^;;

GFW - Godzilla Lays the Smackdown on GINO. Nuff said.

GMK - Godzilla versus Baragon. Like everyone else has already said, this is just a really awesomely made fight.

G2000: Godzilla's blowing Orga to bits. (Orga's face is priceless)

GvsMegaguirus: the final battle, well done, wiy all the junping and the supersonic stuff.

GMK: the atomic cloud, creepy.

GFW: Monster X vs Godzilla, great battle, screw realism, this was kickass.

GXMG: MechaGodzilla ramming Godzilla (seingh him flying to attack Godzilla give me goosebumps)

Godzilla x Megaguirus - The scene where he fights off the swarm.

GMK - The first appearance of Baragon, where he appears in the tunnel and it caves in on the motorcyclists.

GMK - The hospital/tail scene.

GMK - The final battle between G, Mothra and KG.

GFW -The battle between Godzilla, Rodan, Angilas & King Seesar.

GMK-The Atomic Cloud on the Supermarket. That was cool.

GMK-The final scene in the water with Godzilla's heart still beating after blowing himself up with his own breath beam.

GFW-The Kaiju soccer scene. That was funny.

GVM-Godzilla's version of the frog splash on Megaguirus.

G2000-The look on Orga's face when G fired off the nuclear pulse. Priceless.

What I'm listing are more of...moments really but

GMK - When the girl in the hospital thinks Godzilla has passed her by, just as the tail slams into the side of the building

GMK - When Mothra sneaks up on Godzilla

GFW- Monsters invade the world.

Tokyo S.O.S. - Mothra vs Godzilla (best mothra battle since she first faced him)

Godzilla2000- Godzilla's opening rampage, the music (on the eng dub, which is the only version I've seen) is excellent. I love the suit, and I love the lighting. Such a cool scene.

No.5 ~ The Look Of Evil: From Godzilla X Mechagodzilla
The downright evil look Godzilla gives Kiryu as he lowered down for their first (and very short) battle.

No.4 ~ Nuclear Pulse For Breakfast: From Godzilla 2000
Orga tries to eat Godzilla...but the big lizard proves too spicy for the alien clone. BANG!

No.3 ~ Drill Driven Stomach Pain: From Tokyo S.O.S
Kiryu turns his right hand in a giant drill bit and takes a few chunks out of G's Belly. Ouch...

No.2 ~ The Mothra Soul Power Up: From GMK
After Mothra is blasted into nothingness her life force revives a fallen Ghidorah. Epic wing span!.

No.1 ~ Spiral Fire Ray: From Final Wars
Big G unleashes his wrath with a twist and shout on a thrown Keizer Ghidorah and...finally saves the day.

in no particular order.

-godzilla 2000......godzillas first rampage very creative godzilla with human shots and angles.

-the way Orga is stupid enough to put the most dangerous part of godzilla inside its mouth, the explosion was nice but the subsequent crackling of the spines was cool. Lastly the last scene of godzilla torching the city was great.

-godzilla x megaguirus.......the final fight vs megaguirus had a great energy to it and is always enjoyable to watch.

- gmk.......I like how the people reacted to godzillas presence, in most G flicks you see the usual humans running for their lives....somehow the presentation of the people reacting to godzilla in Gmk made the situations feel that much more serious.

- gmk....mothra getting killed is always great to see, king ghidorahs giant fireball slamming into godzilla was great as well.....lastly it was nice to see gmk goji undone by its own malice.

- Tokyo SOS....the opening sequence with the new godzilla march thundering away was a great way to start.

-the first time godzilla looks at mothra his expression of disgust is perfect....also the scene where mothra is using its weapon of last resort against godzilla only to have godzilla fire his beam was great....the way godzilla was combusted by the explosion and his angry expression afterwards were perfect as well.

-final wars....again the opening scene, the transition from the classic theme to the "modernized" version was perfect as was the excellent goji vs gotengo fight...they both set a great tone for the movie even if the movie did wind up going a different route.

-godzilla rising from underwater in the middle of a storm to fire his beam at hedorah.

-lastly godzilla turning the tide of battle against ghidorah and severing the heads of his enemy.

5: Seeing Megaguirus' speed for the first time. I was thinking "wow, how is Godzilla going to defeat this thing if he can't lay a single blow on it?!"

4: Godzilla pwning GINO in Final Wars. That battle lasted less than 15 seconds, but it was one of the greatest 15 seconds in the entire Godzilla saga.

3: Not necessarily an action scene, but it was wonderful seeing Hiroshi Koizumi reprise his role as Professor Chujo in Tokyo SOS. And when he reunited with the Shobijin was really neat and brought back a great sense of nostalgia.

2: "That sound can mean only one thing...GODZILLA!" Pretty much the entire battle of Ibiraki(sp?) in G2K. Godzilla has never looked more powerful and intimidating.

1: Godzilla FINALLY KILLS MOTHRA in GMK. Before this moment, Godzilla either lost and came to a draw in every one of his battles against the pesky bug. Then he just whips around and blasts her into oblivion. That was the first time I ever stood up and cheered during a kaiju battle scene. :D. The second time was when he killed GINO, but we've been over that already...

If you're referring to the original Godzilla vs Mothra, the pesky bug flew over to her egg and keeled over. Godzilla got one good shot in on her the entire fight and that was it. I'd hardly call that a decisive victory, such as the one from GMK.

edit: Add in the fact that Mothra was already weakened and on her last legs, and that makes the outcome of their battle even less decisive. Which is why the moment from GMK, when Mothra was at full strength and still got the beat down of her life, all the more special.

...I'd just like to add that I don't hate Mothra's character, I was just glad to see the scoreboard a little more balanced. :D

Godzilla killed her with one hit from his heat ray. I'd say that's pretty decisive. Perhaps not as epic as in GMK, but Godzilla was very much victorious the first time he ever fought the big bug.

I'm very much inclined to disagree. Mothra was already dying and that hit, at best, knocked her down for a few seconds. She still rose up a few seconds later and landed a powerful blow on Godzilla (if you can call taking off into the air a powerful blow) and only after that did she fly over to her egg and expire.

Godzilla didn't kill her in one blow, but he sure speeded up her demise. Even the dialog from the humans and the Shobijin seem to indicate that.

"Why is the Thing running away?"

"No, you are mistaken. It has spent all of its strength. Mothra, the mighty Thing, is going to die."

They certainly didn't say Godzilla has killed her.

It's true that Mothra's strength was already fleeting and she was nearing death before she fought Godzilla, but if you watch closely you can see that the entire fight was orchestrated so that Godzilla's heat ray is what ultimately does her in. Whenever Godzilla fired his heat ray throughout the course of the battle, Mothra either dodged it or obstructed his aim with her poison powder. It wasn't until the very end of the fight that Godzilla finally landed a hit with his heat ray, and as soon as he did all Mothra could do was glide over to her egg (invariably knocking Godzilla over as she did so) and die with it underneath her wing. Godzilla's heat ray was very much the killing blow.

Yes, Mothra would have died soon enough anyway, but the fact is that she fought Godzilla and he ended up bringing about her death sooner rather than later.

Then we agree, Godzilla didn't kill Mothra so decisively in their first encounter. :P

5) Final Wars: Godzilla vs Zilla: super fast kill,

4) GMK: Godzilla tossing Baragon against the bystanders,

3) GMK: Godzilla as a mushroom-cloud-layin' motherf***er, literally,

2) G2000: the final "Godzilla is in all of us" scene while Godzilla is roasting the city and....

1) GxMegaguirus: by far the last fight, specially the supa-jump!

01 Godzilla X MechaGodzilla
Kiryu Kicking Godzilla ass once he got rid of his backpack. It was more of an Sentai movie of a Robot Fighting a Gigant Monster

02 GMK

Godzilla vs. Baragon! Best scene in the movie, I really don't think any Other Godzilla Movies can beat the SFX of this fight. (heck I think the rest of the movie SPX was rush)

03 Godzilla Final Wars
Almost every scene with the Monster Fight! (Too bad the movie was only made up with Human Fight scenes and the Human Cast)

04 Godzilla X Megagurius
Greatest Battle ever, both monster knew each other weak points and both monsters went all out!, Loved howed they both just had fun (Kick Each other Around).

05 GMM T:SOS
For some reason I liked when Mothra and Godzilla was fighting, but when Kiryu came in to the picture I just felt bord from then on. (Just didn't like the fact that Godzilla got his ass around after that. sigh)

To be frank, I'm not a massive fan of the Millennium Series. It's a bit of a mission to find the "best five moments".

1. Opening scenes of Godzilla 2000: Millennium. Shame the rest of the movie is a prolonged anti-climax.
2. The Bonin Islands scene in GMK.
3. The "mushroom cloud" scene in GMK.
4. Godzilla vs. Baragon in GMK.
5. The ending scenes of GMMG: Tokyo SOS.

5. Whatsher face climbing onto Godzilla in G X Megagurius (I thought that was kind of neat/creative)

4. Kiryu bringing Godzilla out to the ocean in Tokyo S.o.S

3. Godzilla rising from the Ocean in both S.o.S and GMK

2. The whole monsters around the world sequence from Final Wars, from Rodan to Ebirah. I felt that was a filling sequence, too bad about the rest of the movie.

1. Godzilla nuking Baragon in GMK.

There were actually a few that I really liked, but here goes...

1) Godzilla's Entrance to the Final Battle (G2K) I saw this in theaters and I have to say it was really awesome to have the old school Ifukube Godzilla music play as Godzilla made his triumphant march to face off with the UFO. It was almost like a boxing match entrance or something.

2) Godzilla's Flying Leap (GXM) This was one of those surreal moments like the dropkick or Godzilla flying. You see it and just think "what in the world just happened?" but as ridiculous as it is, you can't help but enjoy it. It made for a really fun visual, and you gotta love the look on Megaguiras' face as the big guy comes crashing down.

3) Epic Godzilla/Ghidorah Shot (GMK) - There is one shot in the movie that I thought was beautiful and totally bad ass at the same time. It was dark, which always helps. You have the camera to Godzilla's back as he charges up his atomic breath and the dorsal plates light up, and facing him is a flying King Ghidorah that is glowing bright yellow and ready to strike. It made for one hell of a visual.

4) Mechagodzilla Goes Berzerk (GXMG) - Its one of those things that you don't really see coming, but when it happens you aren't surprised given the circumstances of Mecha-G's origin in this movie. It was a really cool scene, that really didn't get any kind of payoff in this film, although they cleared up everything in Tokyo SOS, so everything turned out ok.

5) Monster X's Apperance (G:FW) - The entrance for this "new" monster was set up very well with a meteor heading towards Earth and Godzilla uses his fire breath on it. Thinking he's destroyed it, the impact leaves Godzilla standing in a crater in the middle of the city, but then in the background we see a skeletal humanoid figure hover down behind Godzilla, and the fight begins. It was really cool, and the reveal as Kaizer Ghidorah was pretty neat too.

Hmm this is going to be tough lets see. Well the last scene in Godzilla 2000 when Godzilla sets Tokyo on fire. I liked that!

Another scene would be the battle between KaiserGhidora and Godzilla in GFW WOW!

a 3rd scene would be Godzillas tail tail hitting the hosptol as he passes by in GMK. I just love that scene!!

a 4th scene even though its short is seen Godzilla kill off Zilla in GFW in 5 secends! Oh Yeah!

And scene 5 that I like is when you see Godzilla kill off Megagirus in Godzilla x Megagirus seen Godzilla bite the tail off then seen Godzilla blast Megagirus!. That was an awesome scene!

I wish this was a top 10 fave millennium movie scenes list because there are so many more really good scenes in the millennium series. Its unfair just to narrow it down to 5 imo. There are probley at least 5 fave scenes in each movie.
