I think about 80% of COLLATERAL was shot on HD, using two different cameras, a Thompson Viper and a Sony F900. The remainder (interior set shots, I think) were shot on traditional 35mm. "American Cinematographer" had a great story on all the gory details last year. In fact, , which I should re-read!
I was hoping that a credit to the company that provided the camera(s) would be cited, but haven't seen that. Strangely enough, the IMDb has the following listed for its tech specs:
Camera - Sony HDW-F900
Film negative format (mm/video inches) - Video (HDTV)
Cinematographic process - HDTV
Aspect ratio - 2.35 : 1
I usually take anything I see there with a grain of salt, but perhaps the whole production was HD?!?!
I should look at the "behind the scenes" stuff again, especially the motorcycle chase. There should be lots of good shots of the camera rig there.
