Well, I thought the Rodan scene was great. Well executed, and one of Toho's best city destruction scenes ever, although brief. I don't care about little nitpicks, like one building changes color some. I don't let those kinds of things bother me when watching a film. If it's a real mistake, a plot hole, something that hampers the story, that's one thing, but buildings in the background changing color is not important to me, and it shouldn't be to anyone else, either.
About the cop/pimp scene: sure, it's funny. I don't think the cop/pimp scene is bad in design, but it does look funny with the "overdub". Especially Mick Preston's first line to the pimp, just looks horribly goofy because his spoken words don't match the movement of his mouth at all. They really shouldn't have used so much cussing that they couldn't use afterwards, because now the scene looks funny to anyone familiar with English. Oh well, I've survived many a badly dubbed Godzilla film before, and now it's the guys speaking English who got it, so turnabout is fair play, I supoose.
There is a lot of intentional humor in GFW. I like the "whiz!" sound when their hats fly off, and Anguirus' "screeeeeech!" in Shanghai - it's funny, and it's a great hark back to the 70s and other light-hearted G films. This is like in Godzilla vs Hedorah, when Godzilla strikes an Ultraman beam pose, and gets his hand burned by Hedorah's beam. My Mother and my Brother, both non-G fans, watched GFW as well, and they both chuckled at both of these scenes too. And neither of them were laughing at any points that were not meant to be funny, either. I don't think there is any "unintentional" humor in GFW. Kitamura made the film to be FUN - as a hark back to the 70s films in a lot of ways, because those were a lot of Kitamura's favorite Godzilla films when he was younger, right? And Don Frye is a riot. Debate of his delivery aside, he has fun and entertaining dialouge. I got great kicks out of a lot of his lines, again, it was intentional humor, and it came off well. Now, I don't know about ALL of the fight scenes being intentionally funny though, and I wouldn't say that about Versus either. Some fights in both Vs and GFW were funny, but not all of them seemed funny to me. I saw no "laughs" in the training facility fight or the motorcycle chase, for example. Even as much as I love GFW, I would say that calling all of the fights in the film intentionally funny is stretching it, but I suppose I could see how some would say they are. Many people find different kinds of humor in different kinds of things, and not everyone finds everything that is supposed to be funny, funny, and some people find humor in things that many others do not find humorous. I understand this, so I see where everyone here may be coming from.
Someone else on here said GFW looked like it was made for TV, and Godzilla films didn't look like that before GFW. Well, if I had to say any one recent Godzilla film that looks "made for TV" to me, it would have to be Godzilla X Megaguirus, not GFW. I still think GFW is the overall best looking film in the series, even above GMK and the Kiryu films.
At any rate, I got a lot of kicks out of GFW, and there are a lot of laughs to be had for me while watching it. It's all part of what makes the film so much fun. It's too bad that many others did not agree with or understand a lot of the humor, nods and homages in GFW, but IMO, they are only cheating themselves out of a good time.
