I hope there is a way I could watch that short film by Higuchi and Anno using the only kaiju from a Ghibli movie. Don't get me wrong, the exhibit is awesome, but I would love to see that at least.

So many great pieces in that exhibit. That spinning globe you see in all the Toho films, the Mecha-G 2 suit, the Polar Borer from the Last Dinosaur. So many relics from the great kaiju films of the golden and modern eras!

Yeah, I'd hope they can at least put it online or something,

And here are some more details about the museum exhibition, reported today by the English language website of the Asahi Shimbun newspaper.

I found a teaser trailer for that short film here. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... ibli-aired

Being one of the few people who absolutely adores Nausicaa I can say I am more than thrilled by the way this looks. Quite honestly this hits the trifecta of awesomeness, classic live kaiju action, Nausicaa inspired story, and the mind of Mr. Anno behind it all. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

One of the few?

I know a TON of people who rank Nausicaa their favorite Miyazaki movie. I'm actually one of them. :D

What an excellent surprise! I had no idea Sci Fi Japan had a new series of videos (the next one looks particularly interesting).

The only bad thing: I wish I was there. Well, this video is better then nothing.

This sounds more awesome with everything I read about it.

I'd love to see a complete list of all the props that were on display (or at least a list of the movies that were represented)

I'm not sure if the exhibition catalog lists everything that was on display, but it's at least close. I estimate around 250 props and pieces of art, not counting stuff from the exhibit's short film.

Off the top of my head, here's what is represented in some way or another:

The Mysterians
Battle in Outer Space
Gorath
Destroy All Monsters
War of the Gargantuas
Godzilla vs The Thing
Latitude Zero
King Kong vs Godzilla
Godzilla (54)
Godzilla (84)
GMK
Mothra (96)
Lorelei
Terror of MechaGodzilla
Atragon'Terror of MechaGodzilla
Gamera GOTU
Gamera 2
Gamera 3
Sinking of Japan
Submersion of Japan
Submersion of Japan (tv show)
The Last Dinosaur
The War in Space
Godzilla vs The Sea Monster
Matango
Tokyo SOS
Monster Zero
Booska
Ultraman
Ultra Seven
Return of Ultraman
Ultraman Ace
Ultraman Leo
Ultraman Taro
Ultraman 80
Godzilla vs Megalon
Godzilla vs Gigan
Space Giants
Mighty Jack
Space Wolf
Totsugeki Human
Born Free
Zone Fighter
Specreman
Silver Mask
Redman
Zaborgar
Lion Maru
Rockbat
Junborg Ace
Fireman
Iron King
Thiundermask
Greenman
Triple Fighter
Mirror Man
Superior 8 Ultra Borthers
The Unbroken
Godzilla vs Destroyer
Mothra 3
Seige of Fort Bismark
Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla (93)
Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla (02)
I Bombed Pearl Harbor
The Last war
Godzilla vs Biollante
Godzilla vs King Ghidorah
Godzilla v The Smog Monster
Rodan
Nessie
Gunhead
Majin
Daigoro vs Goliath

That's all I can remember.

Yeah, that's quite a list of films being represented at this thing.

Thanks for that info, Ed. :) I'm so jealous!

PS: What was the Nessie prop like? Was it actually the serpent from Princess From The Moon? Just wondering since that's been the rumor for so long now and I've never been able to get a real answer.

It was sitting on a desk in a mockup of an office, so you couldn't really get too close to it. I did not get any impression that it was he same as the Princess From the Moon creature.

...So, where are all the props now? It's been two years since the exhibit; did it all get put into storage somewhere?

More importantly, though, is there some way we could build enough interest to see the exhibit released overseas? With Godzilla doing so well, maybe this would be an opportune time to re-introduce audiences to elements of the classics.
