Most anticipated of 2017!

Far more exciting lineup of media to look forward to this year. Kong and Godzilla movies in the same year! Edgar Wright returns from exile! Bong Joon-ho makes another monster film! Apes vs. Harrelson!

Here's my most anticipated movies:

- Kong: Skull Island
- Godzilla (anime)
- War for the Planet of the Apes
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
- Baby Driver (Edgar Wright returns!)
- The Shape of Water (should be out by the end of the year, filmed in autumn)
- Okja (new film from Bong Joon-ho)
- John Wick Chapter 2 (should probably get around to watching the first one)
- Spider-Man: Homecoming
- Valerian and the City of A Thousand Planets
- Star Wars Episode VIII

... and maybe Blade Runner 2049 (considering how much people love Arrival... another one I need to get around to seeing) and Thor: Ragnarok.

I'm not as much of a TV guy, but I'll love Rick and Morty, Doctor Who, and Stranger Things coming back, but what I'm really looking forward to is the return of Mystery Science Theater 3000! MST3K is my favorite TV series of all time, and with Joel at the helm, a strong new cast (and cameos from some of the classic cast), a rumored lineup of films that is dynamite, and (most importantly) a veritable murderer's row of writing talent I think this could end up being something special.

Oh, and I almost forgot: Steve Ryfle and Ed Godziszewski's Ishiro Honda biography should finally make it's bow this year!

^I forgot we were getting a new version of Murder on the Orient Express! I just don't know about Kenneth Branagh as Poirot. I'm having difficulty just conjuring up the visual in my head.

Also, are you talking about Scorsese's film Silence? I believe that's already in limited release. Critics have certainly all seen and reviewed it.

I'm surprised by the lack of interest in Dunkirk. I think it looks fantastic. But I'm also a pretty big WWII, military history, and aviation nerd. Still, it looks like an amazing war film, and Nolan is a fantastic director who also really knows how to utilize large format film to its full effect. I just have a good feeling about this one. Interstellar was mind blowing in IMAX 15/70. I can't wait to see a Nolan directed WWII movie in that format...

Alien Convenant - 6/10

Adding "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri" to my list due to the writer/director. I really love the films of the McDonagh brothers, they have a dark comedy, but a real dramatic heart. Not frequently movies I recommend to others, but definitely movies I enjoy and appreciate, often finding new depths on repeated viewings.

Also going to add "Atomic Blonde", because that red band trailer is intense and i enjoy a solid action flick.

The biggest surprise of the year so far was Get Out. Loved that movie.

... oh, and Samurai Jack, which I forgot was coming out.

Have to remember that McDonagh movie... and I still need to see Calvary.

This week is a big one for me: two of my most anticipated films by two of my favorite creators drop this Wednesday! Okja will appear in your home via Netflix and Baby Driver comes to theaters!

It's like Christmas!

So far this year has been pretty underwhelming. Aside from Split and Get Out, neither of which were even on my list nothing has been truly ground breaking this year thus far. Everything else has teetered from either really good (Logan, WW, GotG2) to down right dreadful (Covenant, RE6).

Hopefully Spider-Man, Baby Driver, and War for the Planet of the Apes will break that streak.

Man, I'm so excited I'm going to see Dunkirk in IMAX Laser on Monday! Driving over to Austin for it. I wish I could make it all the way to Dallas to see it in real 70mm IMAX film, but IMAX laser is a very close second so I'm quite happy to have this opportunity! And I've never seen anything on a laser projector so it will be a new experience for me. I'm also very happy that this theater will be projecting the entire 1.43:1 image, which can only be seen on IMAX 70mm or select IMAX laser screenings. And after seeing the full frame extended IMAX preview, you WANT to see this movie's full framing! The cinematography is excellent!

We've had a few smaller films film film in our city the last few years, but nothing that looks as... err, good as the one you guys got (Walmart direct to DVD type movies).

... my Mom did run into Billy Dee Williams, though. That was pretty cool.
