We've been admitted to a room for overnight monitoring. Everything looks okay right now, so that much is good...not 100% sure what's happening, but this baby might be coming sooner than expected.

At midnight, they're giving her Pitocin, to kickstart labor. This baby is coming tomorrow.

That's the best thing about this forum, instead of feeling like I'm intruding on some BS high school lunch table conversation, I'm among other fans who are old enough to be dads.

My wife is due October 19th! Yay, baby!

We had our first, a boy, earlier this week. He's awesome and his mom is unbelievable. Seriously, it doesn't matter how much you read, watch, are told, what-have-you. You can never fully understand how incredible, strong, fearless, and so many other wonderful things mothers really are until you see your wife give birth to your child.

My wife probably wouldn't want me giving too much detail, but her labor didn't all go exactly as planned. It was scary at times and they even rushed her to the operating room at one point just in case. And apparently the epidural doesn't work for something called back labor. I'm normally a very calm-under-pressure type of person and can handle pretty intense situations, but I don't know if I could have done what she did. It was hard enough just being in the room and trying to help (depsite feeling completely and utterly helpless). I have a tremendous new amount of awe and respect for her, more than I already had.

Our baby is super cute, naturally. And he's totally awesome...except for those couple of totally inconsolable screaming sessions at 3am... Those suck. A lot...

But he doesn't do that every night and we're all starting to learn each other's needs and cues and schedules and it's already getting better in less than a week. And did I mention how cute he is? Cause he's super duper cute. And funny. And sweet. It's really fun and awesome. Oh, and he watched (okay okay, slept through) his first movie with us last night on the couch. Godzilla 2000. Trying to bring him up right, you know!

So at 5:17 am my baby girl was born and I'd never experienced a faster, wilder swing of emotions in my entire life.

My wife's water broke before any real labor started so after a few hours they tried to induce labor. Unfortunately, she had an abruption which is a tear in the placenta and she started bleeding a scary amount...like it sounded like a trickling stream...terrifying. So we had to have a c section.

So I went from being absolutely terrified to more elated than I've ever been in my life.

2 and a half weeks early but 6lbs 7oz.

Thanks for bumping this thread, looks like you all became Dad's during my year of so absence - very belated congrats to all, especially since several of them are turning one already!

Both my kids started school today. (My son is Nine starting -4th grade, and daughter is 10, starting -5th grade) Since they are in home school my wife can set the schedule. They get fewer breaks during the year because my wife doesn't do all the "teacher work day" garbage that public schools do, also, they wont get a full two weeks during the winter, or a full week for presidents day/spring break etc..., so they get more done in a condensed time. The agreement is - Any holidays "I" (Dad) get off from work, are days they get off of school, with a couple of exceptions of course, but its a schedule that has worked for the past couple of years.

I can see my son slowly losing interest in Godzilla because I honestly haven't watched any G films in a while. He was super excited to hear about Pacific Rim 2, but that is still a few years down the road. I was watching some videos of my kids when they were babies, seems like forever ago, (My daughter was born two months after Godzilla Final Wars came out) it does go by insanely fast.
