The What Made Your Day Thread

Postby Tom R VanSlambrouck » Thu Aug 16, 2012 3:13 am

The polar opposite of the Sh*tty Day thread.

What made my day yesterday and today is the girl that I've been talking with that I met online and I are meeting up tonight at the local casino; I'm both nervous and excited at the same time.

Also my bills are all caught up. I thought I was a behind on a few but they're all due next month.

Congrats on the date... sweep her off her feet! 8-)

For me, my mouth is healing way faster than expected from my tooth removal. I predict that I should be able to function drug free by Friday.

Also, seeing that Criterion is finally putting out their Shochiku toku titles really made me happy. :D

This did, and I'm not kidding. I love living in a world where stuff like this is made, watched and enjoyed. Now I have to see the whole thing.

Got my first paycheck from my new job yesterday and today I bought a new pair of tennis shoes (the most comfortable pair I've ever had!) and some new comic books (Popeye!). Then I went and took my little sister (her last day of summer break) around the historic downtown and discovered this huge antique store I didn't know was there and on the second floor was this amazing independent bookstore!

My extra fincial aid hit so I was able to pay off two credit cards; also paid my cable and cell phone bills for the month so my next two pay checks are free and clear.

Congrats Tom!

I got a new job today after only being unemployed for 1 week. Assistant Manager at the Imax Theater in the United States Air Force Museum. The pay is a step down from my last job but I think it'll be more enjoyable so it all equals out. I've been a supevisor now for many years, but this will be new for me. I have to schedule people for work, hire/fire people, keep track of the money and run the day-to-day operations of the buisness.

On the plus side, I get all expenses paid trips to film conventions and stuff from now on so that's awesome.

I just placed third in a chili cookoff.

Granted that's of 10, but I think it's still pretty good. Especially considering I've NEVER cooked competitively and my chili is very non-standard fair (the people who liked it LOVED it, but others were put off a bit by the fact that I use stew meat rather than ground beef). So, hooray.

Me and my small film crew just won a 48-hour film challenge. I'm so happy. :)

We are working plans to get our short into an AZ film festival.

Thanks!! :)

I think it takes time, that's all. The one me and my crew entered was sponsored by our university. There were a few contestants, so I'm surprised we won. Our judges were harsh critics, one of them is a producer for the new and upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, so I was really nervous. So we'll see what happens next.

I generally do them in LA, and there are tons and tons of teams here, many of them with pretty big professional crews and sometimes name actors. I don't do it in the hopes of winning, I do it because it's something that forces me to complete at least one project per year.

I never look at video, film, or any form of art as means of profit or competition. It's art, and I do it because of that solely. :)

Just wanted to stop in and tell fellow G-Fans a story from the past weekend.

Saturday was the wedding of one of my best friends (known the fella since 3rd Grade). Ever since he and the lady announced November 3rd as the wedding date, I'd been teasing them about getting married on Godzilla's birthday, even going as far as to call their wedding "Godzilla's birthday party" whenever it came up in conversation.

So at the reception, in the middle of the DJ's set, he comes on the mic and says "This next one is for Kyle. Now we've done a lot of celebrating tonight, but tonight is also important for a different reason. Today is also Godzilla's birthday. Kyle, this is for you"

Then "Godzilla" by Blue Oyster Cult pipes through the PA and all the people who were out there dancing to top 40 bullsh*t immediately clear the dance floor. Me and about 7 other people get out on the dance floor and proceed to lose our minds.

It was awesome.

Well, you can only hope.

I'm currently planning my wedding, and we're still kicking around how to incorporate Godzilla. At the end of the ceremony, we'll be walking up the aisle together to the tune of the Imperial March, so we've got our Star Wars base covered.
