In preparation for going to the Texas Renaissance Festival a couple weekends ago, I watched a few 80’s fantasy films to get in the mood.
Dragonslayer: This has been on my list to get to for years, maybe decades. I’m happy to say it did not disappoint! It’s everything I would have wanted it to be and the dragon effects were awesome! I’d happily watch this film again anytime.
Ladyhawke: I only discovered this film a few weeks ago when someone posted a picture of Rutger Hauer in medieval garb sitting atop a massive black horse with a falcon perched on his gloved arm.
It’s also a pretty good 80’s fantasy film but not as good as Dragonslayer. It draws out some of the emotional scenes for far too long making them kinda cringey and negating the impact they should have. Also, it has possibly the
worst score I’ve ever heard in a film! It’s TERRIBLE! It’s this awful upbeat 80’s synth music that feels entirely out of place. And it’s not even good 80’s synth music. It’s TERRIBLE 80’s synth music! YouTube it! It’s so bad! I feel like I’d be willing to watch this movie again but only if I have control of the mute button!
