Kids have been a little more open to new movies lately instead of the same 3, so we've been watching some Disney classics:
Sleeping Beauty
Cinderella
Robin Hood
The Little Mermaid
The Lion King
watching this hand-drawn stuff is awesome sauce for that alone...and occasionally for that alone. Cinderella is the weakest of this batch to me, as the relationship between her and the prince doesn't really seem to be there at all...he doesn't even seem to have a FACE, honestly. He's just an escape from her horrible life...possibly not the best message?
Sleeping Beauty was kinda fun. Not sure I'd seen it beginning to end before, honestly.
Hadn't seen their Robin Hood in YEARS...since I was a kid maybe. It was a lot of fun. Maybe needed one more catchy song? But still, it's got a couple of good villains in terms of their entertainment value and that always makes for the better Disney entries. Its heroic cast is honestly a tad lacking, though.
Little Mermaid is great. Disney in its heyday when they could seemingly do no wrong and every animated feature was an unmitigated hit.
The Lion King is an all-timer. You can see how it does start some of the trends of these movies I'm not a huge fan of (namely, celebrity voice acting instead of actual voice actors), but the songs are amazing, the story is great, and it plays incredibly to both children and adults. This might be their best. Might. I haven't exactly always been a huge aficionado watching these things regularly so we'll see how it goes watching some of the others.
