I take the X-Men films as just sorta stand-alone adventures at this point, just set in different eras of time. There's too much continuity disparity to try to reconcile it all.

Lost City of Z: Interesting movie, though kinda annoyed about the ending...

King Arthur Legend of the Sword: OK this movie had some REALLY bad trailers.
Made me not want to see it in theaters (and I really like King Arthur stuff).
The movie was actually pretty good, and the effects were cool.

Not sure what the deal with some people not liking this guy.
I thought he was great in Pacific Rim, and these movies show he has good range.

Honestly, the X-Men movies aren't worth wasting my time arguing about anymore, so I'm just going to stop here. Let's hope Marvel gets the rights back and decides to make X-Men movies worthy of the source material.

Mother - A brilliantly layered, subpar, ingenius, borefest. That is how I am going to describe this movie as there isn't too much I can say about it without giving spoilers. It has some really well thought out moments, but the narrative is as predictable as a human having to take a dump. The first act masterfullly sets up the film only to fall to pieces in the last act that over stays its welcome. There's no suspense, no tension, and overall, it was horribly mismarketed in the trailers. Now that isn't necessarily a bad thing since the new trailer to The Shape of Water has pretty much ruined the movie for me, yet, there had to be something else they could have done to keep it closer to what the movie actually is rather than doing a bait and switch. Still, it isn't a horrible movie, just an extremely flawed one that you will most likely either love or hate. I give it a 7/10.

I don't think Winter Soldier has anything to do with Infinity War, it's a very solid flick

Do the X-Men wear their costumes in the movies? No, therefore, it is not even remotely worthy to the source material.

And the only MCU movies that are inferior to a couple of the X-Men movies are Iron Man 2 and Thor 2.

I'd rather watch a movie that not only has a self contained story, but is also going to build up to a greater universe and not have to retcon itself 100 times just to try and make sense.

The Kingsman - Fantastic movie that gets better with each viewing. The church scene remains to be the most glorious, fun, badass scene of the movie. It's not perfect, but pretty damn close. 9/10.

I'm a big fan of both Fox's X-Men film series and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I've got to hand it to Fox. Their X-Men movies tend to be superior.

To me, Marvel Studios has really only produced four top-tier superhero movies to date: the first Iron Man, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and both Guardians of the Galaxy and Vol. 2.

Meanwhile, I'd say Fox's top-tier offerings have included X2, X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Logan.

Everything else that's come from Marvel has ranged from decent but pretty bad (Thor: The Dark World, Iron Man 2), to just good (Doctor Strange, Ant-Man), to actually really good (Thor, The Avengers, Iron Man 3).

On Fox's side, I would apply the "really good" label to almost everything else they've put out that isn't top-tier: the original X-Men, The Wolverine, Deadpool, and X-Men: Apocalypse.

To Marvel's credit, I don't think they've churned out anything as bad as X-Men: The Last Stand or X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Life - The most positive thing I can say is that it was better than Alien Covenant. Well, the movie as a whole was not terrible, it was just extremely predictable and cliche, especially the sequel bait ending. There were some good ideas thrown in, but ultimately, this movie is nothing more than a low rate version of Alien. At least they did go with a small cast, so you got to know a little bit about them before they died. The problem is that they just weren't that interesting. In the end, I give this movie a 7/10.

Comedy of Terror - Now THIS movie really gripped me compared to The Raven! I was laughing my ass off quite a lot during this thing, especially during a scene when a widow ditched town with all of her dead husband's money before his funeral. God that was great. All of the actors were fantastic, especially Basil, whose pretend re-enactment of a scene from Macbeth was stellar. I heavily enjoyed this one a lot despite it having some flaws. I wish Karloff had a bigger role, but he did fine for what he was given to work with. I'm giving this one an 8/10.

The wife and I saw It last night.

It was... fine, I guess. Nothing special or memorable. The filmmakers really didn't seem to have a very strong take on the material, just kind of popping from requisite plot point to requisite plot point, without much sense of pace or atmosphere.

Jenn was actually really unhappy that we wasted our night on it; she's a bigger King fan than I am, so I think her hopes were a little higher. I don't particularly care if I never see it again, but I wouldn't refuse to watch it or anything.
