A few things in response to the last few posts.
1. I love me some Eraserhead... I think if it was "focused" it would lack a lot of its nightmarish surrealism, which (for me anyway) is a big part of the charm of the film.
2. The black and white version of the Mist makes an already incredible film much better. Darabont's The Walking Dead TV series should kick all kinds of ass.
3. Goke is an underrated gem!
4. Someone's Watching Me is a pretty good early Carpenter movie. Not one of his best, but a pretty decent flick. It kind of comes off as a test run for Halloween though, which trumps it in every way. Speaking of Carpenter, I also happen to agree with Green Dragon that Ghosts of Mars is better than most say (its not a good movie, but it can be pretty fun if youre in the right mood) I also like Vampires and Escape From LA). I'm a bit of an apologist, I guess, but I find all his films to be entertaining. He hasn't made one movie I haven't got at least SOME enjoyment out of. My least favorite works of his are Village of the Damned, Ghosts of Mars, and his 2nd Masters of Horror episode Pro-Life (his first episode, Cigarette Burns was fantastic though). His last few movies have been straight up action flicks, not the bleak horror stuff he's loved for... I love the horror stuff, but I don't find anything wrong with his "popcorn movies" either. The guy has ALWAYS made b-movies and he's still one of the best at it. Oh, and In The Mouth of Madness is awesome (probably Carp's last truly GREAT movie). Its a shame that that and Prince of Darkness are so under-appreciated and rarely seen.
5. Watched Trick r Treat. It was pretty good. Not amazing or worthy of the insane hype, but still pretty good. I'll post my full thoughts a little later in the thread for that film.
6. I also popped in the original Universal Mummy with Karloff, but I didn't finish it... that's a great one I haven't watched in a few years.
Also, I still haven't seen Paranormal Activity or Zombieland, but I'm gonna try and see both within the next week (hopefully seeing PA tomorrow afternoon). It actually feels really good to have some new horror movies in theaters this time of year for once (and no, whatever Saw sequel they are on doesn't count).
