Godzilla 1998 renamed Zilla? Can we have an answer?

I think this crap is so dumb. I fought with some folk on tumblr a few years back about this. It's Godzilla, its not a good Godzilla (well the Animated version is fine) but it's still a Godzilla.

It's this weird need to distance themselves. It's the same as people getting angry about remakes or adapting books. Who cares if they screw up? It's not like the 22 previous films disappeared in May of 1998. We should all be over this by now.

From what I've seen the "Zilla name change" schlock is basically a defense used by GINO fans. Since the monster was "renamed" we can't complain about how Godzilla is a totally different monster for the worse. Of course since the name was never changed, the GINO complaints still apply.

I think of GINO/Zilla as a Godzilla, just like Minya is a Godzilla, you know? Like the Hanna-Barbera Godzilla is a Godzilla.

I mean, you could say that Godzilla fighting Zilla in GFW invalidates that monster as being Godzilla because Godzilla himself is already in that movie - but, again, Minya is a Godzilla and he's in the movie, too!

There are three Godzillas in GFW is all I'm saying.
