I think as bad as the effects are, the boring-ass stories are just as bad if not more so.

I love the opening you have with Mothra being beaten by SpaceGodzilla.

Yeah, the stories of the films are what kill it for me. I'm very forgiving when it comes to effects.

I also really love that you brought back Mothra for the space battle. That makes so much more sense than the throwaway Mothra stuff in the movie. It also keeps the scene, despite eliminating Moguera (which was one of my main goals when fixing this movie too).

Godzilla vs. Destoroyah redux.

Godzilla attacks, glowing, and it is determined that he absorbed too much of SpaceGodzilla's powers. Miki's finally breaking under the stress of her mental connection with creature. As Godzilla has become superpowered and more enraged and more in pain by the day, she has started to lose her grip on reality.

The hope at this point is to find Godzilla Junior, hopefully further grown, and incite he and Godzilla to fight. Meanwhile, the Super X-3 has been built, because the Super X's were deemed the most successful deterrents to Godzilla and everyone knows SpaceGodzilla didn't win.

The Super X3 is intro'd much earlier and we're walked through its weapons a bit, kind of like the Super X2 scene in Biollante, so when it comes time for SX3 to see some action, it's not coming out of left field/the filmmaker's butt.

Meanwhile, the destoroyah crabs are popping up. When a SWAT team member blows one up, its pieces are absorbed by another nearby crab and the creature increases in size. The decision is made not to destroy the Destoroyah crabs, but to amalgamate them. Thus it is warned that humanity has not learned from their mistakes, and they are in the business of making monsters.

Then, when Destoroyah is created, it goes on a rampage, which calls the SX3 into action.
Godzilla Junior, sensing an enemy, much like his father does, joins the fray, and soon Godzilla shows up as well, meanwhile, Miki is degenerating into madness as Godzilla's runaway radiation melts his brain.

The Super X3 is blasted into oblivion by one blast from Godzilla, because nobody when building it expected his ray to gain in strenght. When Destoroyah attacks Godzilla, there is actual noticeable damage. For example, a blast from his Oxygen Destroyer beam breath causes damage to Godzilla's skin...because y'know the Oxygen Destroyer DISINTIGRATES THINGS, it doesn't just cause sparks to erupt on their surface.

Godzilla Junior gets knocked down for the count, which causes Godzilla to go beserk. He's blasting everything in sight and Destoroyah happens to be in the way. Just as Godzilla gains the upper hand on the creature, it attacks, pushing him to the brink. He is saved by a last-minute blast from Godzilla Junior (much like how Minya saved Godzilla from Kumonga in Son of Godzilla). The two defeat Destoroyah and are embracing in triumph much to the horror of all onlookers, because y'know people actually WANT Godzilla to lose this match or it means the destruction of TOkyo, somehting the original film forgets entirely, and that's when Godzilla melts down....but Junio absorbs the radiation and wades away.

Now, every Godzilla, and Godzilla foe other than Junior is destroyed and the decision is made to live with Godzilla...a sort of "he's our responsibility" thing, and since he can sense his enemies, building a mecha or clone or something to battle him would only endanger lives, and it's decided that maybe this Godzilla will be more of a protector, one keeping watch for invading enemy kaiju.
Also, with Godzilla gone, Miki has regained herself and she claims (with some ambiguity regarding whether or not this is true) that she has no connection to Junior, thus all those plans and stuff that were hatched involving her and her connection to Godzilla won't be getting tried again.

or something like that.
Honestly, Godzilla vs. Destoroyah isn't a bad movie in the way it's set up or the plot, it's the little things that really ruin the movie and turn it into a pile of crap. Things like the overwhelming sensation that everybody's rooting for Godzilla when that should be the LAST thing they want, the feeling that Destoroyah is less Oxygen Destroyer and more sumo-wrestler, the feeling that stuff from the original film is shoe-horned in as a cheap way to try to build in some nostalgia, and the cheap Aliens ripoff...
Godzilla vs. Destoroyah is the one 90s Godzilla film that could be saved with REALLY MINIMAL tinkering, because the basic framework and setup is neat and different, it's the actual execution that's yet another lazy flop.
