I remember Entertainment Tonight and their report trying to play up the Anti-American thing, but nobody was really interested, it seems; after all it was
just a Godzilla movie.
The report showed fleeting shots of amazing MechaGhidorah vs Godzilla scenes, so the search was on, and then when I finally saw a badly copied subtitled VHS of it, probably from a Hong Kong laserdisc, I was like:
All those poor sparkler explosions, the weak acting by almost everyone (even without being defiled by bad dubbing), that AWFUL time travel subplot to WWII with the Dorats and the idiotic American acting ("A Giant Dino-Sore is ATTACKING our BOYS!") and that dorky Spielberg reference, to the running M-11 scenes (reminds me of a Bjork video that came out a few years later)... oh my. Quite a bit to sit through to.
The effects run hot and cold. Godzilla's suit in this one looks great. Ghidorah looks alright, not really digging the straight horns OR its roar. Flying scenes were weak. Overall, nowhere as good as Showa (60's more precisely) Ghidorah.
The miniature city effects: entertaining, but the more miniaturized scale due to Godzilla growing in size made everything look more out of scale, even though they were still fun to watch. And yes, they were the best the 90's Toho G-films had...(now, the Heisei Gamera Series....that's altogether another matter)
And then I saw the DVD; OOOH, that dub is atrocious.
