Is this Shusuke Kaneko in G vs. Mothra '92?

Was watching my new R3 disc and noticed what looked to be a familiar face in a crowd scene (when Mothra and Battra are battling above):

Is it him? Opinions?

I think it's him.

The resemblance is unmistakable.

Holy crap! he DOES look like Shogo!

BTW, I'm not too sure that's kaneko in the center, but the tomiyama look-a-like has me baffled!

That wouldn't be surprising. I read that he has frequently been a 'runner' in several Godzilla films.

Didn't Kaneko ask to direct "Godzilla vs. Mothra", but got turned down because Toho already chose Okawara?

maybe it is them..or one or the other. Kinda like the same thing Steven King does in his own movies..tho he has some lines in each but still..kinda the same aspect.

Not sure either about Kaneko, tho this was in 1992. maybe that is how he looked then.

and that might be tomiyama. Im gonna use one of my lifelines on this one.

In Japanese Giants No. 9, there is a mention of Kaneko lobbying (unsucessfully) to direct GVM '92. This issue, by the way, is devoted to GMK and is a must for fans of the series.

How did you get the job of directing Gamera: Guardian of the Universe?

“In 1992 I had an offer from Daiei to direct this film. I wanted to be a kaiju director, not necessarily for Daiei. I told Toho that I wanted to direct a Godzilla film, so everybody knew that I wanted to direct a kaiju movie. I thought it might help me in that ambition to direct a Gamera movie.”
