@Joseph Goodman:
> What are some specific cuts in the German version?
I have compiled the following information from (= "cut reports"). Aside from several minor cuts only lasting some seconds, the German version of Godzilla is missing several longer scenes. All in all the German version is about 12 min. shorter than the Japanese original. Please note: The following refers to the German TV-print which was also used for all known German VHS and DVD releases. However, it is known that this TV-print is some minutes shorter than the original German theatrical version.
CUT: A scene in the Japanese parliament. The short scene where the ship leaves the harbour. LOST: There are some reports on the damage done by Godzilla, and Dr. Yamane tells something about footprints of a snowman and demands an investigation. When the ship leaves the harbour you can see Serizawa bidding farewell to Emiko and Dr. Yamane (you can see Ogata standing behind Emiko).
CUT: A scene in the parliament, right after Dr. Yamane told about Godzilla origins. LOST: People argue about whether Dr. Yamane's theory should be made public or not. After the report was made public, in a short scene some citizens are talking about Godzilla and the consequences of radioactive fallout.
CUT: Emiko and Ogata listen to the radio. LOST: Emiko tells Ogata that she's going to ask for her father's consent. But after Dr. Yamane enters the room there is a dispute over whether Godzilla should be studied or killed. Dr. Yamane gets angry and throws out Ogata.
CUT: A scene in the hospital after Godzilla's attack. LOST: A radio message saying that Godzilla has retreated back into the sea and that Dr. Yamane has been asked for help in working out a plan to destroy him.
CUT: Emiko and Dr. Serizawa are talking about the oxygen destroyer. LOST: Dr. Serizawa tells Emiko about how he discovered this weapon and how dangerous it is. Emiko promises not to tell anybody about it.
CUT: Emiko, Ogata and Dr. Serizawa are talking about the oxygen destroyer. LOST: Serizawa reveals that in case he's forced to use the oxygen destroyer, he will have to kill himself in order to ensure that everything about his invention is totally destroyed.
CUT: The prayer (?) of the children. LOST: Children singing.
