I'm up for a remake of Godzilla '54, but it has to be true to the character and he has to have a good deal of screen time. Not to mention the special effects have to be smokin' to get people jumping about it. I don't mind if Toho or an American company does it. It's unfair, as I've come to realize, to say that all American film makers will mess up Godzilla. Heck, if all of us here at Monster Zero got together and wrote a script it will be sweet as sin!
The thing is, Godzilla/ GINO 1998 was like an American remake that had a nice setting (New York) and the money, but the boys of Devlin and Roland missed the mark with the design, origin, behavior, and powers of Godzilla. Still, that doesn't mean other American people can't do a great remake that may end up better than the original... yes, some people consider other G films better than the first so go figure. With this in mind, I also have to say that with Peter jackson and King Kong... it's still to be determined. It's always 50/50 with directors and crew so it's still not a certain thing that Kong will destroy the box office. I'm sure Peter will do fine though, but we must wait on this one.
Right now with the result of Godzilla Final Wars at the box office, some feel that Toho doesn't have what it takes to do a remake on Godzilla. Maybe this board should become a movie studio and make Godzilla movies from now on!
Godbless and be cool!
