What do you imagine happened to showa goji?

Postby DannyBeane » Wed Dec 18, 2013 11:48 am

After Terror of Mechagodzilla ended with Showa goji swimming off into the sunset, what do you imagine was his final fate? We know he winds up killing KG in DAM in 1999 but then what? Does he live out his days till he drops dead? Does he go out with one last hurrah fighting some unknown evil force? Do humans, still considering him a threat, finally put an end to him? After all, they locked him up on Monster Island in the future despite the fact that he had saved not just Japan but the world countless times.

I figure the series pretty much just continued as it had, we're just not seeing the movies.

Maybe he fought and defeated a right wing coup of government militarists who tried to use their new ships and Super Robot to gain control of the government?

Maybe he fought gargantuas?

Who knows...

one of the biggest reasons forcing continuity on the Showa films is a bad idea. Godzilla's evil, a hero, bad, good, superman, a cat...you can't reconcile all of that in any sort of continuity.

I know what you mean. After watching Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla and Terror of Mechagodzilla back-to-back it really felt like an end of an era.

While I understand the different motivations of Godzilla, I feel like it could be explained as him coming to understand his place in the world and his duty to protect it. While a little cheezy, the transformation started in Ghidrah.

We do know that after Terror of Mechagodzilla he would later be captured by the Xliens as the events of Monster Zero take place in 198x. Then Destroy all Monsters.

I really wish one of the Millennium series reboots had taken up the torch after Terror of Mechagodzilla, though.

Did you not see the source that I posted? It's in the start of the Japanese version.

I wish I could read Japanese... Obviously it has subs but still.

I been meaning to ask you Russ - do you have a box set of goji movies? Your pics always look like they have pretty solid quality.

I have all sorts of DVD's, DVD-R's, and Blu-Rays of Godzilla movies and such, but the scenes from Godzilla movies that I post here on MZ are from the HD television broadcasts from Japan back in 2008 that I have here on my laptop. (which makes them more easily accessible)

I seriously don't remember posting this...in fact, when I was reading through the initiation of this little argument, I was thinking, "I'm gonna post - Let's just call it 19xx and we can all get along."

It's a bit terrifying to think I'm that tired right now...I'm sleep-posting?

The farthest line to the right is 一九 六X年 = 196X toshi =196X year. So its the 1960s

I feel like Showa Goji eventually just stayed retired on monster island, possibly assisting when largescale alien invasions happened, but mostly working on his autobiography.

Good catch Danny and Russ. I had to go rewatch my dvd to make sure I wasnt crazy. but I feel like I looked at it a few weeks back.
I feel bad now that I've been spreading misinformation about the films date. If I got confused by ryfles book recently shouldnt it have clicked when I saw the opening credits? at any rate I just double checked both the classic media sub and dub dvd and my scimitar dub dvd (both sides) to make sure I hadn't misread it there, but either I need new glasses or was similarly confused, thats definitely the year 196X.

anyway my guess is after the events in Destroy all Monsters maybe minya finally starts growing? since they're mutations its hard to say he'd ever grow in the same exact size and shape of Godzilla but it seemed the intent. Gigan Died in Zone Fighter, King Ghidorah Died in DaM. I suppose another Hedorah could come, and Megalon's still there but unless their home is destroyed I would expect visitors from the Black Hole as well as Xillians who "escaped into the future (probably need to review the original Japanese line)". I'd like an All out battle against Hedorah, Megaro, and Mechag vs Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan. Titanosaurus is still alive but he was under control I wonder if he'd naturally be an enemy. and if so can we ever get King Seesar vs Titanosaurus? Angilas heals up from his Mecha G beating, maybe that rejected kaiju from gvgigan (redmoon) can face him. Xilliens sound repetitive but of the showa aliens, they were the first (excluding the mysterians and non goji aliens) and they had the biggest hint of return. maybe with a new enemy for a grown minya to face.

Yeah i was thinking that. Although ToMG was the last film made, chronologically in the showa continuity, DAM is the last film. I'd love for Toho to do what Tsuburaya did and create new Showa suits and a new showa-era movie, but I know they never will.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

I would at least like IDW to do something with a Showa suit.

I know they aren't allowed to reference movies, but are they also restricted on what designs they can use?

They can use the suits, but so far they have stuck with Heisei and Millennium. They have to get Toho approval for just about everything (such as "change Godzilla's posture in this panel")
