Cherenkov Light

Remember that line in KK vs. Godzilla where the scientist says the light imminating from Godzilla looks like Cherenkov Light? "It's a light generated in nuclear reactors."
For the first time in my life I looked it up (on wikipedia) and it really does add a cool little scientific accuracy to why Godzilla's ray and lit up dorsal fins are blue:

funny thing is, today you can go and look that up on wikipedia and add it into a script and nobody would think twice of it (you might even get called out if you don't do something like that for scientific accuracy)
in 1964...people probably thought it was made up and the filmmakers probably had to do a LOT of research to come up with a line that is not much more than a fun factoid and isn't exactly integral to the plot.
kinda amusing to think about it like that.
neato fact, though.

jelly: 1962, not 1964.
lhb: That's really cool! I never gave that line much thought, but it's neat to know that it was based in fact and not just made up. As far out as these movies tend to be, the occasional grain of actual science helps to give them a little tidbit of "real world" credibility without downplaying the more fantastic elements.

Holy crap. That's cool. I've never really thought of looking that up, in fact, I doubt I could have properly spelled the word in order to find the info. That's cool.

Very cool. Especially like that it can be associated with Godzilla's ray and dorsal glow!

Was watching KK vs. G today. Looked up Cherenkov light just to see if they had the term right.
Glad to see Toho did research on the actual science of Godzilla.
Another thing I noticed was Fujita's wire thread. The very next year saw the production of
super braids made from dyneema fiber. Like spider wire if you fish.

You have to remember that Toho's directors were once military soliders before film, so they know what weapons do what and strategies of infiltration. I'm sure after the A-bomb, soldiers were heavily educated on nuclear physics and warfare. Also real world science makes a science fiction believable.
