8. King Kong vs Godzilla

The best of the showa series you ask:

For me that would be either Godzilla vs. the Thing or Godzilla's Revenge. But I think most of them are really good. Even movies like Godzilla vs. Megalon that aren't well made are fun to watch despite all their problems......

I think on an artistic level the original is untouchable,simply a great piece of cinema with far more intelligence and depth than anyone ought to expect from a 'monster movie.It's really about the atomic bomb!!

Howvere despite this it isn't that entertaining,so I would go with somebody else on this thread and mention the semi-trilogy of G V M,GTTHM and MZ,made at the height of Toho's Golden Age.Good plots[often rehashed],a sense of humour without descending into complete campness,impressive effects,wonderful monster battles and great human characters well acted whom you'll happy to watch while you're waiting for the monsters.Toho had such a good stock company of actors then.I suppose G V M is the best all-round film for entertainment but seeing Godzilla,Rodan and Mothra team up against Ghidorah is my favourite climax to any G film,it's so rousing.

Also really like DAM ,KK V G[Japanese version]and TOM,hel,I like ,em all!!

mothra against godzilla has the best g suit, and it was a great flick
the gidrah films that followed are great examples of classic sci-fi fx films
terror of mecha godzilla ...the shot twoards the end where godzilla just starts wailing on titanosaurus like he wants his kunch money!!! and of course that awesome scene where every thing around godzilla is getting blown up..and then g's fins catch fire, but he just keeps coming.....truly showing the world who the king of the monsters is ......

Besides the obvious (KotM):

v King Kong
v Mothra
Raids Again
v Mechagodzilla
Terror of Mechagodzilla

I find that the better movies are the ones that make the monsters more "monstrous" (you know, killing people and destroying things with no want or reason). But the BEST movies i find are the ones where it's just G vs man. My top 2 of all time are KotM and 85 for that very reason. G is way better when he just stomps around like the small-brained giant reptile he's made out to be and all that's around to stop him is an ill-prepared military. Throwing other monsters into it is cool, but seems to stray away from what they were originally trying to do (and of course doesn't allow for much story).

I'm not a terribly huge fan of the films of the Showa Era besides the original '54 film. But if I would pick what I thought was the best just for the sake of it, it would come down between King Kong vs. Godzilla, Godzilla vs. Mothra or Ghidrah the Three-Headed Monster.

After that, the the quality of the films seemed to really go downhill. IN my point of view of course.

I can't pick.
Destroy All Monsters has an AWESOME storyline,and it has spectacular kaiju action. It also has that one shot where Akira Kubo and that other guy are talking and we're looking through a wrought iron gate? (something) and their faces are in the circles. That's fantastic.
Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster has the best cinematography overall.
And Godzilla vs. Megalon,what can you say? It has a robot who programs himself to grow in some way, a beetle with drills for hands,a cyborg chicken,and Godzilla whips out his alltime best wrestling move-the sliding dropkick! Plus,that dolphin boat thing.
So these are my top 3,I think Smog Monster might be best,but I can't decide.

Not to rain on your parade, but that's exactly how I feel about your favorite film, GODZILLA VS. SPACEGODZILLA. And the fact DESTROY ALL MONSTERS was atleast better presented IMHO.

CyHunter, you really need to see many of these old Showa movies. They can't be hard to find. And imagine rubbing it in *insert name of CyHunter's personal insulter here*'s face!
