I dunno if I've said it in here, but I think one of the things that kinda holds me back on this movie is that I so rarely watch it "in a vacuum" so to speak. I almost never just grab this one randomly when I want to watch just any-ole Godzilla movie, and so I almost always watch it in the context of the rest of the series and quite honestly, by the time I get to this point, even the Showa series, which I love dearly, starts to wear a touch thin and the oppressively depressing tone of this film tends to weigh it down a bit.
It's like, the 70s films wore a bit thin, but they were still dumb fun...and then this comes along and on top of feeling a bit tired, it's like a 90-minute sadgasm.
