I'm especially fond of this one because it's one of the first Godzilla films I ever saw (along with Gigan and Monster Zero, IIRC). Even without the nostalgia goggles, though, it's a lot of fun to watch. As ridiculous as some of it is (space apes from the third planet of the black hole, the metal pipe that saves the day, Godzilla's magnetism), it's so kinetic that it's endearing. I think this has Masaru Sato's best score for the series, and (if we don't count the updated design for TOMG) the best MechaGodzilla design as well. "Fun" and "cool" are the first words that come to mind when I think of this movie.
To weigh in on the GvMG/TOMG debate, although I think the latter is a better film overall, I do have to side with the former when picking favorites. Besides nostalgia, I just find it easier to put on GvMG and have fun watching it. I'm not often in the mood for TOMG's more serious tone.
