Godzilla vs Gigan . . .
Oh my lord let the $*@(fest begin
If any of you have seen "The Angry Nintendo Nerds" "Godzilla-thon" reviews, I have to agree with 100% of what James Rolfe has to say about this.
However, because of the fact that this was a favorite of mine as a kid, I still let it slip with a higher rating that I would give it now (if I hadn't seen it as a kid).
This film's biggest problem is stock footage and rush job. Had Toho put more investment and elaborated on the (brief but new) Tokyo Destruction Shots I would've liked it better. I fully agree with the fight choreography being sluggish, dragging, and telling a boring story.
You really want to root for Angurius here but boy does he get his @$$ kicked bad in this film. Makes u wonder why Godzilla didn't bring Gorosaurus, Rodan or Varan (the ladder 2 who were supposed to be in the original idea for this film fighting Gigan, Ghidorah, and the unused Mogu monster).
And why market Gigan shooting a laser from his head if your never going to see it?
Another thing I noticed here. Godzilla only shoots his ray at Gigan and never King Ghidorah. "Why is that I always wonder???"
The human story I can never make up my mind as to whether its witty or "so bad its funny". Either way I always find myself laughing that the protagonists stupidity throughout the film.
Bottom line this film could've been alot better. But I still enjoy it from time to time for my childhood memories. Its a prime example of what happens when Toho rushes Godzilla projects.
