I like the weird Rodan suit in this film. His face reminds me of an old, wise owl. It looks like he could have a glass eye with a little monocle.

So I watched this one earlier this evening and you know, it just does not work the same for me as it did when I was a kid. It isn't a bad movie, it has some great scenes in it, and for an alien plot, it isn't bad despite the fact you know the aliens are going to end up being the villians. However, what really ruins the movie for me are the antics of Godzilla. That space dance is not funny, it is just sad. Overall, like I said, not bad, but definitely no where near the best like I used to think it was.

I really can't understand any disdain for this wonderful film. Monster Zero is batshit insane sci-fi and it works. The characters are very well written, topping some of my favorite of the whole series. The blending of an alien invasion plot with the giant monster genre was brilliant. Every other Godzilla movie with aliens don't get anywhere close to how well this movie handles it. It works because it doesn't take itself too seriously, but it doesn't insult the audience by being outright stupid either.

This is of course without any bias for how much I love this movie. [/peopletakemetooseriouslyonline]

To say the series had gotten wacky with this entry is putting it mildly.

Let me start off by saying that this is one of the few Godzilla movies where I say that the monsters aren't the main reason to tune in. On the contrary, The Aliens from Planet X are so uniquely weird, even by the standards of Godzilla movies, that I really see them as the heart of the film. I mean those outfits! The way they talk! The way they act! They are awesome. And Nick Adams as Glen, Fuji, & the nerdy inventor guy are fun characters on the good side of the human cast. You Rats! You dirty stinkin' Rats, what'd you do to her?!?! Classic!

This movie is really a precursor to Destroy All Monsters, but still fun. The monster battle on Planet X (one of only two monster battles in the entire series to take place off of Earth), was classic. Godzilla doing the jumping shie (or whatever its called) was hilarious, and is one of those classically cheesy moments that sort of defines the series. If they had done that in the original film, it would have been stupid. Doing it in this movie with this wacky alien invader plot, it fit right in.

And delightfully cheesy is how I'd sum up this film. Its a hoot.

I remember watching this movie on TV under the name, 'Monster Zero'. I still think this movie as 'Monster Zero' It's the name of this forum as well as the name of one of the yahoogroups that I'm a member of. :wink:

My VHS tape was Godzilla vs. Monster Zero, but Monster Zero on its own sounds cooler.
