I've always seen the tear in the larva prop. That's one of those that always jumped out at me, unlike, say, the cigarette in Mothra's hair in Ebirah.

Yup, it's one of the best, but does anyone else notice the eye holes around Godzilla's neck towards the end of the movie? I feel like being in HD made the flaw more obvious.
Also, wasn't there a scene in the movie where the military tries to drop Godzilla into a pit and tried to use poison gas to kill him? I could have sworn there was a scene like that in the movie, but I rewatched it recently, and it wasn't there.

I revisited this one last night, via the Criterion disc. It's still one of the best, and likely still my most favorite.
One thing I noticed, which I hadn't considered before, is how Mothra's battle with Godzilla kind of parallels our protagonists' quest, while being part of the same cycle. The first battle with Godzilla fails, like the first attempt to return the egg; but the second battle succeeds, like the appeal to Mothra itself, and sets the stage for further good deeds. Good may not triumph over evil initially, but it DOES ultimately triumph through perseverance.
