I think that a major strike against this film is that it really doesn't have many of the Godzilla staples that would make the series popular or so beloved eventually, there's no real Sci-Fi to speak of. No other memorable Toho monsters. No aliens from outer space. So in a way, this film doesn't even really feel like a Godzilla film at times and it's very easy to overlook. I for one kind of look at it like another Toho kaiju film like Rodan, Mothra or Frankenstein Conquers the World.

My favourite Godzilla movie!!
Yes I wish it was played straight (rather than a satire/comedy) and yes I wish they had designed a better King Kong suit. but when all is said and done seeing the two greatest and most reconizabble giant movie monsters kick the crap out of one another rocks my World. 8-)

Also in what other movie can you see a giant ape (my favourite land animal) fight a giant octopus (my favourite animal)?? :D

I don't see much of a problem with this Kong suit, but the version in KKE is atrocious. Even though I love that film.

Really now? That suit is an insult to the legacy of King Kong. His goofy fugly face. His crooked teeth. His pot belly. His sagging chest. His long crooked arms that bend in unatural directions. The fact that his unkempt fur looks like it was made out of carpet samples.

None of that is a problem?

Nope. He looks equally goofy in the original film.

Boy. If you think the Kong in King Kong vs Godzilla looks as "equally goofy" as the majestic iconic Kong from the original. Then I really don't know what to say.

Its like when people say that the "Gino" Godzilla is superior in design to the iconic Japanese version. (believ me I came across alot of people who feel that way through the years in my everyday life), I end up scratching my head in disbelief.

Never said the Toho Kong was superior. I just said they were about equally goofy. Hell, I prefer the 33' Kong.

His eyes still look giant and cartoony. *shrug*

First and foremost, whoever decided to stop it dead in its tracks with the UN reporter crap in the American version!

I actually am somewhat fond of the actual dub in the American version; it's the added cutaways that ruin it.

...What? Compare the 62 to the KKE suit. All I see are complaints about the 62' suit, DOES ANYBODY EVEN LOOK AT THE THING IN KKE?

...Or is that suit somehow considered better?

The "water" suit stunk but the Kong suit otherwise was far superior to te '62 suit.

The Kong suit in KKE, while no work of brilliance is VASTLY superior to the one in 62. No fake arm extensions and a face that actually moved.

See I feel like it is technically a better suit, but it looks goofier and worse as a representation of Kong than the 62.

Since it seems I've broken some unspoken law of the fandom by not hating the 62 suit more than the 67' suit I'm going to watch both of those movies this weekend.

The '67 suit is the worst-looking Kong ever, followed by the '62 suit.

The 62 Kong looks more like a Bigfoot than an ape.

I'd never heard anyone say the 62 suit is better than the 67 suit until looking at this thread. Anyone care to explain why the 62 suit, with its carpet fur, blank face, and fake arms, is better than the 67 one?

Make no mistake, they're both bad, but the '67 suit has the same carpet fur problem, plus a dopey-looking face with big plastic eyes and really short legs.

The '67 suit is perfect. It makes Kong into a cuddley superhero, which is what the movie it about!

Precisely. I adore everything about King Kong Escapes, the Kong suit included.

That's the thing. The body proportions of the 67 suit are more ape-like (short legs and broad back) than the 62 suit which is propped more like a man. Very unconvincing.
