Yeah, I've seen that version. THe part when Mugal enters MG is edited because the screen size had to be formatted to fit the TV, so certain parts of the shot had to be chopped off. You can see it fine if it's in widescreen.
After reading this thread, I had to re-watch my copy of the movie as well. There's something in this movie that has never made sense to me. In the scene where Katsura is electrocuted, the Simeons just happen to be standing just outside the door and they just happen to be wearing medical scrubs. Doesn't this seem just a bit too convenient? Why were they there, and why were they prepared for surgery?
One idea I had was that they had been monitoring Mafune for a while and decided that they needed to contrive a situation where they could save Katsura's life and gain Mafune's aid. So I figured they sabotaged the machine and then waited in preparation. However, this scene takes place long before the events of ToMG. In the beginning of ToMG, Mugal and his aide (I forget his name) are discussing getting Mafune to help them. But if they have already obtained Mafune's help 10 years before the events of this movie, why do they need to get his help now?
