What happens with that particular character isn't as bad as what happened to Cranston, to me anyway. It feels like a waste but at least once he leaves the picture there are other characters and performers to hold up the film. Whereas once we lose Cranston in G2014 I silently wanted Ford to get offed.

The ensemble was terrific in Skull Island. I honestly think the scenes with the lead actors could have been cut down a bit to make the film a true ensemble piece.

Apparently we're looking at a July release date for the Kong: Skull Island DVD and Blu-Ray release... at least that's the "estimated" release blu-ray.com and others are using. I think I'll see it once more before it moves out of theaters.

The mammoth $146.5 million opening for Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 took its toll on everything else at the box office this past weekend. Kong: Skull Island lost another 280 theaters and dropped -54.7% for $507,959 in 653 theaters, its first under-$1m weekend haul in North America since it opened. This coming weekend will be its tenth, which was when Godzilla hit the second-run theaters, so that might be where Kong is headed next. It's at a terrific $166.3m domestic and $564.4m total worldwide to date.

I have been yearning to see this again on the big screen, and catch some things that I perhaps missed before, but the movie going expensive is quite expensive these days and after tax season, one really has to be choosy, so I am glad this will most likely come to our local one dollar (or in our case, two dollar) theater as early as this weekend.

i managed to see it again this past weekend at our local dollar theater, and I must say that I enjoyed it even more. The first time, I was "cautiously optimistic", but then it greatly exceeded my expectations. Since I knew what was going to happen this time around, I just sat there and thoroughly enjoyed the ride! I originally gave it *** stars out of four the last time around. I am now giving it ***1/2 . The key word was fun!

And as I stated before, the characters for this type of narrative were fine. All of this crap that they were "not fully developed" was not really necessary for the plot. We got the basics for Packard, Conrad, Mason Weaver, Bill Randa and even Hank Marlow and did not need any unnecessary backstories (especially for Marlow, since his plight was already laid out in the beginning and we did not need to come back to it over and over). Maybe only Toby Kebbell's character, could we have have known a little bit more, and perhaps Tian Jing's San could have been more fleshed out more, but that really did not do any harm to the story.

Easily my favorite movie of the summer. Who would have thought that you could take Kong away from the original story and have success.. in the past that has not worked. King Kong lives, escapes and vs Godzilla were all terrible imo ... I never thought you could take Kong away from his story and have success, but this one has done it.

It's a great movie, and a good representation of Kong. I'm still skeptical of this upcoming vs Godzilla movie, but who knows. The story, cast and title character were all great in Skull Island! It's one of the few movies that I've bought on digital just to get it early, and I plan to buy the 3D and 4k release on home video as well.. All in all, just a great movie. It and wonder Woman are easily the two top movies of the summer for me!

Yeah, he makes good points, but I do think the movie is so light on its feet that none of these flaws drag down what is otherwise a really fun movie.

Ha, that was pretty cool! And I never noticed you could see helicopters inside the back of the ship... I'm still not sure it adds up to the number we see in flight, but I never really cared. I mean, I noticed that they seemed to multiply, but I was always willing to forgive it like so many other "flaws" in monster movies. Like he says, do we NOT want to see Kong use a #%@$!ing helicopter like a #%@$!ing baseball bat?!

I don't know if anyone watched the SJ commentary, but I got a little chuckle when they took the Kong=Batman joke, extrapolated to Godzilla=Superman and threw in the joke "SAVE MOTHRA!!!"

Yeah, Skull Island is really fast paced and fun. Good to see the director having a good sense of humor like that!

Maybe I missed something, the HT video mentioned that the collaboration was in the works for a long time and had nothing to do with the timing of any controversy around the director. What happened?

^JVR watched the Cinema Sins video that made fun of Kong and then eviscerated it on twitter, some people applauded him others said he needed to not take criticism personally and its all in fun.





In the end i think all it proved was that the people that like criticizing movies dont like to be criticized themselves.

I honestly never took cinemasins seriously to begin with. However, I think this is the first time that a director has directly spoken out against this channel. I dont know if thats good or bad, but it might very well set a trend of hollywood shotting back at unwanted criticism. Again it might not but studios, artists, label companies, and other organizations that own media products have been trying to alter the "free use" for a long time now. Heck look at all those lawsuits toho filed for Godzilla.

Cinemasins is the poster boy for the nitpicky BS that passes for film criticism these days.

A good critic can write a negative review of a movie you love and you can still understand where the reviewer is coming from and respect the opinion.
