I can't believe I missed this news. I read the book, but I wasn't particularly impressed with it. It was pretty boring.

A handful of people have been asking me about this production from Spirit Ent. Group but ofcourse I'm not at liberty to reveal anything that I know....however, a couple of people related to the project have now spoken out. It's a minor update but atleast you guys will know that they are pressing along with the film slowly but surely behind the scenes:



I can also add that apparently, unfortunately, the other King Kong film from Fantastic Films entitled "King Kong: The Beginning" has been cancelled.

does it seem to anyone else like a new kaiju era in cinema hinges almost solely on 2012's Godzilla film???

i feel like there are a ton of these monster movies in "production" or "gathering funds" while the only one that seems to REALLY be going forward is Godzilla...a lot of these smaller productions could be waiting to see how that particular film does before moving forward.

for that reason alone i hope the new G flick does well, so we can see movies like this one come out.

New era? People were saying that 5 years ago when Kong came out, then they were saying it almost 3 years ago when Cloverfield was released. And now they're saying it about G2012. All we'll probably see out of this is a bunch of godawful Sci-Fi Channel or direct-to-DVD original movies with pathetic CGI that tries to cash in.

I dunno about a new era but there are a slew of big budget giant monster flicks on the horizon; "Panzer 88", "Mortis Rex", "Godzilla:2012", "Voltron", "Monsterpocalypse", "Pacific Rim"[if it actually features 'giant' monsters], "Robopocalypse", "How To Survive A Robot Uprising", "Panic Attack!", "Robot Taekwon V", "Empires Of The Deep", the eventual "Cloverfield" sequel, "Bleak Sea", several big budget video game adaptions that feature giant creatures in them, a couple of new versions of "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea", ..the latest b.t.s. vids from "Super 8" seem to imply a giant creature, and I know of about 4 or 5 other big budget films in developement now. The "Transformers" films. Plus some nice looking indies; "Monsters" and "Skyline" and it's upcoming sequel. Films like "The Host:2:3D", "Sector 7", "Chawz", "Troll Hunter", "The Millennium Bug", and this one.

Yeah I know that. The 'z' is just silly too but it is a giant creature flick that's going theatrical and atleast looks nice.

I really hope this doesn't get made. It just sounds like some cheap straight to video animated piece of crap. Like one of those "Sci-Fi original" type films.

King Kong has already been humilated more than once in his film career. (The Toho Kong suits, King Kong Lives).

The grand-daddy of all the giant movie monsters doesn't need this on his resume.

It's actually a big budget 3D motion capture film along the lines of "Polar Express" and "Beowulf". In the first press release they mentioned being very concerned about honoring Merian C. Cooper's legacy;

"We're very concerned with honoring Merian C. Cooper's legacy in Hollywood. We want to make sure that whatever we deliver will honor his memory,"
