I read the book two years ago and I personally really really enjoyed it. It was very well written and well thought out. However, I doubt this would have made a good movie. All the scenes with Kong (as far as I remember) were just flashbacks, and weren't all that much to begin with. The book was actually more about Carl Denham than it was about Kong.

So while a good book, it would not have made a a good movie in my opinion. If Universal wants to do another Kong flick I'm all for it, but I think it should either be a sequel to Peter Jackson's Kong or a remake of King Kong Vs Godzilla. I personally prefer a KK Vs G remake

How did Legendary get Kong?? I thought he was property of Universal ?? Is this just based on the book King of Skull Island which is owned by the Cooper estate ?? If so, oh boy!!

This is exactly what King Kong needs: an original story, neither a remake of the 1933 original nor a sequel to any prior film. An ancient tribe of people on an island full of giant apes, dinosaurs, and other monster animals, completely cut off from the rest of the world? There's plenty of great story potential there. I wonder who they'll get to direct it.

Kong definitely has a fanbase!!!! He is the original!! The one who inspired others to even make a Godzilla!! And in the top 100 movies of all time as well as one of the most important films in the realm Of a scifi film making!! And yes he is still relevant as seen when his film stayed atop the box office for two consecutive weeks and grossed 218 mil!! They freaking had King Kong day!! Kong is and will always be popular!! That story will always endure and there is hardly a man , woman or child who don't know the story or character!! Saying that rebooting him just to be doing it is pointless is an insult!! He doesn't nor has he ever needed Godzilla!! If they want to do a skull island story .. Fine.. But keep him away from monster fights with godzilla.. He doesn't need that.. The two monsters are fine independently of each other!!

^Which is why I'd really like this new film to come in and kick ass and resuscitate Kong as has been done recently with (similarly simian) Planet of the Apes.

Any word on how big Kong was in this teaser? I'm betting if he's Godzilla sized, it will lead to KKvsG. That is the money maker kaiju film. Legendary will bring WB and Universal together to co-produce. There's nothing but profit for that.

I love Kong but I'm dubious about this. YES,this is the way you make another Kong film (not another re-tread/remake) BUT, we just had a Kong film and the results were so-so. I'm not sure the desire for this film is out there in the general public. But what do I know...it's one of the top 3 trending news stories on FB right now lol. I told my dad about this (Kong and Aliens/Predator were our things when I was a kid) and he's very excited. I really want this to be good!
