Anyway, I like the idea that every other one of these movies would be a Godzilla movie, and if Mothra goes over well in King of the Monsters I'd like the movie after Godzilla vs. Kong to be an outing for Mothra!

Hedorah would make a good opponent for Mothra, right?

I think the secret (or one secret) to a great kaiju "vs." movie is that the opponents must be really different from one other. Diametrically opposed. Earthly vs. unearthly, biological vs. mechanical, science fiction vs fantasy, svelt humanoid Ultraman vs. bulky kaiju, etc. Mothra and Hedorah, I think, could have that opposing tension.

I still think that WotG would be the best title to pursue from Toho's catalog.

Now... if Legendary really wanted to open up the world they're building, then the sky is the limit. They could bring in ANYBODY from ANY company and incorporate it into their own universe. It really does get you excited to think that we could see Gamera (and his rogue's gallery), Yongary, Guilala, Gorgo and any 'famous' colossal critters from the past interacting in one huge sandbox - without the BS entanglements of companies being stingy or not wanting to play well together (Godzilla and Gamera finally on-screen together, for example). It would be fun & interesting to see them grow a movie universe that could run well into the next decade - or more. Maybe even hold out and renegotiate with Toho for Godzilla once a bunch of other varied monsters have been introduced into Legendary's MonsterVerse (and Toho perhaps runs out of steam with their 'shin' revamp and has let Big G sit dormant again). Then Legendary could really go all-out with a super-duper mega monster star-studded version of DAM!

I want to see Godzilla going up against something new. The 90's & 2000's films just gave us re-hash after rehash.. I'm cool with seeing big budget KG, Rodan and Mothra, but let's open up the gates to something new and wild!

" " Yes to Hedorah, there's a lot of potential there. Some kind of bio-engineered monster like Biollante (Hedorah would make sense as a bio project gone wrong!!!) would work well too I think.

Godzilla Vs Gamera Vs Ultraman

There are many Toho monsters that should get their own solo movie, even if it's for one movie. Legendary could introduce many of them to the American moviegoers.

If the Monsterverse continues, I wonder if it will be with or without Thomas Tull? Though he no longer runs Legendary, he has stayed on as producer since the Monsterverse is more or less his baby.

If Tull decides to stay on, I think he will have enough pull to have Legendary get other monsters from other realms, such as Gamera, or perhaps even Gorgo and incorporate them into the Monsterverse, or have some other Toho creation get their own movie. Hedorah has been mentioned, and I think that a Smog Monster movie would be a killer idea! They can probably make a horror movie out of that one.

One of the Monarch timeline notes has a not-so-secret hint at Hedorah being in the mix, so he might even be in the works in some manner already. Which I approve of, not a big fan of his movie but the monster itself is neat.

Gorgo is a little odd as she doesn’t really have much to offer. You have a kaiju less well-known than even Gamera without any of the cultural marquee that at least Gamera has in the West, visually similar to Godzilla now more than ever thanks to Godzilla’s even greater emphasis on being amphibian. Legendary would be better off with an original creation at that point.

I wasn't even thinking of Hedorah in the vein of a solo horror-like movie, that'd be crazy! Maybe too crazy to actually do in Monsterverse? Dunno. Definitely thinking more like the angle of having to combine humanity's efforts with Godzilla to bring him down. I think people were also speculating that Hedorah might be the real baddie in Godzilla vs. Kong, but I dunno, there's so little to go on for the time being. For all we know, that little hint may never pan out to be anything greater.

I'd be down for an animated MonsterVerse movie or series.

At this point, given Toho's recent output, I just want the MonsterVerse to continue. Don't care much about what foes or whatever...just...don't let Toho be the only ones making Godzilla movies. Please. (what a 180 this is from 20 years ago).

The thing about pitting Godzilla against other classic monster characters like Gamera or Gorgo is that it wouldn't necessarily broaden the appeal of these films for audiences who aren't already invested in the Monsterverse. There aren't really any Gamera fans or Gorgo fans who aren't also Godzilla fans. It all just falls under the umbrella of kaiju fans, and kaiju fans are already turning out to see these flicks. While Godzilla vs. Gamera would be a landmark event to us, for most general audiences it might as well be Godzilla vs. a brand new monster.

I think that a modern-day version of War of the Gargantuas would have the potential to be a solid hit. Like Jinzo Ningen mentioned in the other thread, it's fairly well-known compared to a lot of obscure sci-fi classics. It certainly has made a notable mark on pop culture. There was an homage to WotG in one of the recent Scooby-Doo animated series, Brad Pitt and Mark Mothersbaugh have spoken fondly of the film, and of course Quentin Tarantino staged an elaborate homage to it in Kill Bill with Uma Thurman and Daryl Hannah's fight. War of the Gargantuas has a unique, iconic-sounding title that comes with nostalgia for viewers who have seen the original or even might just remember reading the title in a TV Guide at some point. A new take from Legendary might work really well and could set the stage for the Gargantuas to cross paths with Godzilla or Kong in a future film.

I too want Godzilla vs Hedorah. Isn’t that what Banno came to make in 3D? Being lucky enoug to meet the man at GFest 04 I think it would be a great honor to the legacy of the man so dedicated, after Tanaka said he killed Godzilla with his controversial film, he spent the next 40+ years trying to bring him to the west properly, and he’s at least partially responsible for the monsterverse. Hedorah got jipped in Final Wars. Besides I’d prefer to see Gamera vs Godzilla made in Japan first. The possibilities for this save the earth hippy remake film 50 years after the original are amazingly astounding!

^ I think Kalat's book put Banno's 'ban' from the Godzilla series in context: while it was true that Tanaka said he ruined the Godzilla series right after Godzilla vs. Hedorah came out, after a few years they saw what the new floor was for the relative success of these movies and the performance of Godzilla vs. Hedorah was seen in a different light, plus the character of Hedorah was popular in merchandise. They apparently humored rehiring Banno a few years later!

I would like to see a solo Mothra movie in the Monsterverse, should it continue.
