POSITIVES: He's an OK director. Inventive narrative-wise.

NEGATIVES: Operates on low-budgets. Could easily get BLOWN OUT on a studio level. Movies are very brown and digital.

Honestly, not the worst pick.

His twitter timeline is pretty interesting because you can basically assume he just saw his first Godzilla film like a month ago.

This director is very unfamiliar to me, so I can't judge on what I haven't seen. But this is another case of Legendary playing moneyball, where instead of getting some well known, and high-priced guy, they go with a filmmaker who is not as expensive, but feel he is the right person to direct this type of feature. I think it worked with Jordan Vogt-Roberts, and heck I even think it worked with Gareth Edwards, though obviously, that pick is a little more polarizing after the end result.

Very interesting choice. Not to typecast the guy but might Legendary and Warner Bros. be going for a more horror-esque approach to Godzilla vs. Kong?

You're Next and Blair Witch are both awesome horror movies. I haven't seen The Guest yet but I'm definitely a fan of what I've seen from Adam Wingard so far. With him in the director's chair and Terry Rossio in charge of the writers room, I'm looking forward to what comes of this in three years time.

Haven't seen any of his films, but have heard great things about The Guest and You're Next.

You're next is an interesting twist on the horror movie genre that I definitely recommend to most people. I don't know how I feel about him directing kk vs G though.

You have to make sure to get a no name director for these types of films. You don't want someone going rogue and making something against the will of the studio which don't do as well in China.

I just realized that Wingard's next movie is the American adaptation of Death Note which will premiere on Netflix this August. I wonder if he's seen GMK and/or knows that his Japanese Death Note counterpart also directed a Godzilla movie.

I thought both You're Next and The Guest were good and offered a unique take on established genres. He's a director i wouldn't mind seeing a giant monster movie from. I like this choice over Doughtery on G'14pt2. I'm game

He's gone more in depth about the Godzilla series in this series of tweets than Gareth ever did during years of promotion.

Gareth mentioned Godzooky and he made a giant monster movie with his own money, so i wouldn't give him too much guff for his fandoming

Not to mention: being a FAN doesn't mean quality.
Jun Fukuda wasn't a fan. He didn't think there should have been any Godzilla sequels, but he made some great entries.
Kaneko wasn't a Gamera fan.
Tezuka is/was a huge Godzilla fan.
Christopher Nolan wasn't really a Batman FAN, that's why he had David Goyer there, so he could have someone who knew the source material better and could advise him if he was straying too far from character.
Peter Jackson is a huge King Kong fan, and that prevented him from editing anything out of his Kong movie.

Likewise, I'm sure there are fans who've turned in great stuff and non-fans who've turned in poor stuff. Being a fan is not an indicator of the quality of your film.

Wingard mentioned how much he enjoyed the Godzilla alert system in Godzilla vs. Biollante. It'd be really cool if something like that returned, and it'd make sense because by then the world will have gotten used to two major kaiju events. Of course, I imagine it'd be applied to kaiju in general instead of being Godzilla specific, because by then the world will have known a half dozen monsters (publicly, as I imagine the general public knows nothing of Kong).

Just watched Wingard's Death Note movie. It's really bad and should worry people, lol.

What's wrong with operating on low-budgets, though? Gareth Edward did the same, and also managed to make Godzilla without blowing the bank.
