Now people are saying that Danai Gurira (Black Panther, Walking Dead) is cast or at least close to being cast in Godzilla vs. Kong.

If true, then Sarah Finn is added again casting MCU actors in the Monsterverse (and vice-versa). Since Robert Downey Jr. was once reported to play "Perry Mason" for the big screen, Sarah should cast Downey to play a certain reporter named Mr. Martin for this feature!

I'm finding news about this movie very easy to ignore...which is kind of a good thing...

So focused on King of the Monsters, that then it'll seem like a relatively short wait (with lots of stuff to catch up on) for this one.

They're still missing a golden opportunity by not casting Steve Martin to play a reporter named Raymond Burr.

It is really cool to see all of this MCU/Monsterverse crossover casting. It's similar to how so many regular cast members in Showa Godzilla movies would turn up in other tokusatsu films in that era. I hope Danai Gurira does have a part in Godzilla vs. Kong. I wonder who among the Godzilla: King of the Monsters cast will be the first to pop up in a future MCU entry. Vera Farmiga as Umar in a Doctor Strange sequel?

I wonder if they still have October as a target start date to commence shooting? By now, we would have heard major casting announcements, than the few already mentioned. Perhaps, that is it. Perhaps everything will take place in more isolated areas, such as an island, thus the need for fewer actors. I really don't see that happening, however. My gut says that shooting will not start until the very end of the year or the beginning of 2019.

I could see them getting started filming for the actorless scenes with spfx heavy sequences as well as needed b-roll such as crowds running and reacting.

Haven't we heard that some of the cast of KOTM is returning? Maybe they're just the main characters...?

They could be playing it like the Marvel did with Avengers 4 before Infinity War was released. I doubt Legendary/WB want the publicity around this movie to overshadow King of the Monsters. Godzilla vs. Kong may be shooting soon, but getting Godzilla: King of the Monsters out the door first takes priority.

So, Godzilla vs. Kong starts filming... Today!

Feels a bit bizarre to have the follow up start filming 8 months before the next movie comes out. This must be what the hardcore Marvel fans feel all the time.

Well, it looks like they are going to start in Queensland, Australia, which no doubt, will be part of the Skull Island scenes

https://www.businessnewsaus.com.au/articles/look-out-australia--godzilla-is-coming.html

They will probably return to Vietnam to film more Skull Island scenes (unless of course, they decide it is cheaper to film all of those scenes in Hawaii).

I'm sure they've been working on the previs and CG for quite some time prior however.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

I hope they do some filming in Viet Nam. The beautiful location footage was a key ingredient in Kong: Skull Island.

I really hope so as well. Hawaiian shoots are becoming a little to generic (one could easily spot the same mountain ranges in different productions), while Vietnamese locations have something fresh to offer to the naked eye.

But yes, for the first time ever, the lore of Skull Island, will now exist in a Godzilla universe!

There are sooo many productions that have filmed there over the last 40 years. Kualoa ranch/valley has become a go-to location for many outfits. It used to just be for local stuff; Magnum P.I. and the short-lived Birds of Paradise series helped make it a popular locale and it just escalated from there. I lived in Hawaii from 1985-'95 and used to hunt wild pig in Kualoa valley. It is absolutely beautiful. The big draw for filming is that you can appear to be in the deepest wildest jungle a million miles from mankind, yet in reality you're only a quarter mile or so from the highway. Ready access for large film production trucks & equipment makes it an easy pick to shoot in.

But yes, that same spiny ridge of mountains does seem to crop up in a lot of films & TV shows, so it has gotten somewhat overused.

Brian Tyree Henry joins "Godzilla vs. Kong".

I am not familiar with this actor, but he is probably the first of several casting announcements to come, now that this production underway.

I'd have gone with The French Lieutenant's Woman.
Death Becomes Her is the only Streep movie that I've enjoyed.

Likewise, but I enjoyed it despite her being in the movie, not because of it.

^ considering that they're both Warner Brothers projects I wonder if Godzilla's release date will move? Of course, these days a two-week space cushion is just about all you can hope for.

Godzilla vs. Kong is still well-positioned on Memorial Day weekend in 2020. It's two weeks before Wonder Woman 1984 and one week before Maleficent 2, one week after the sequel to A Quiet Place and two weeks after Legally Blonde 3. Assuming that the untitled Marvel movie opening on May 1 will be Cate Shortland's Black Widow, that will leave Godzilla vs. Kong as the only event movie opening that month to primarily target male audiences.

Although I was happy that Godzilla was the winner, I was sad that Kong was killed. I would've been happier if he had retreated instead.

I had the same reaction. Huge fan of Godzilla, far more than of Kong, but I was kind of rooting for the ape to escape to safety. He’s a sympathetic creature even in the original. That being said, his face is turned to the side and you hear a post credit growl a la Godzilla in the original Japanese where we don’t see him. If he was face down he’d drown, but he may well have survived. Godzilla is definitely the winner but my take’s that King Kog Lives!
