My thoughts on a potential sequel:

I love the idea of GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS as the title.

I'd like to see something awakened from the melting permafrost (yeah, global warming message), or genetic tampering.

New monsters, pretty please. The Mutos were AWESOME, and a huge breath of fresh air IMO. Hedorah is the only Toho kaiju I'm interested in seeing (pollution is just as a relevant issue today), though the only classic kaiju I'd honestly be dissapointed with them choosing is Mothra. And, as much as I love 'em both, I don't think we need Anguirus or Rodan for this universe.

YES to Serizawa getting an eye patch. Call it fan service, but damn that's a good idea.

I'm totally satsified if we never see giant robots/cyborgs or mazer tanks... or space monsters (maybe King Ghidorah could be some horrible attempt to re-create Godzilla.)

I really hope this gets officially confirmed soon, boy are we in for another fun couple years of speculation.

Perfect idea for a sequel:

After Godzilla and the MUTOs, kaiju have been occurring more and more regularly. To the point where Ford is now part of a special unit that responds to monster incidents. On a particular mission, he and his team come across what appears to be a young Godzilla, about twelve feet high. It is docile, and they take it under captivity.

Meanwhile, Admiral Stenz is under pressure from the government to take a stance of no-tolerance with Godzilla, but Stenz disagrees, considering how Godzilla successfully exterminated the Mutos. He decides to go rogue, and defects, stealing the USS Saratoga and taking Dr. Serizawa and Dr. Graham with him. They circle the globe, protecting Godzilla from their mobile battle station. As a symbol of his cut ties, Admiral Stenz grows a full, bushy beard.

Ford later joins them, defecting himself, and takes the young Godzilla along with him. As they set off on the high seas together, the creature begins to sprout a pair of wings...

It's gonna be the best movie ever.

If we get to see more ancient remains in the sequel, it'd be pretty cool if one of them just happened to be a massive turtle shell. Just as a neat Easter egg for the fans.

I'm still on the boat for Mothra!

While I really like both Mothra and King Ghidorah, I feel it is time for them to get a bit of a retirement. They have been in every series since Showa in some form. I would like to seem them use Rodan instead and bring some power back to the character like he had in Showa era.

Also I beg them to avoid using MechaGodzilla...overdone as well.

Classic good kaiju I'd like to seem them try is Anguirus, Rodan, Baragon and just go wild and crazy Varan.

Enemy kaiju: I really think they should try Hedorah again. It is relavent still today. King Ghidorah only if they make a third movie. Titanosaurus would work really well imo.

I think King Ghidorah is the quintessential Godzilla villain. Toho reusing him (or Mothra and MG) a bunch doesn't necessitate LP skips over them - we are getting fresh takes on the characters. I'd agree about not using MG simply because it seems like a huge leap is needed to go from a very realistic military to suddenly having a functional mech that looks like Godzilla.

I feel like with Pacific Rim - and the somewhat more "realistic" take of this universe - I can't see MechaGodzilla making sense.

Masers in a sequel could be cool. Dip our toes into the waters of truly insane military stuff like Super Xes, Gotengos, Mechagodzillas, etc, etc.

Slowly ramp us up to that, showing humanity's ever-increasing military response to a world in which kaiju exist.

I'm thinking 2016 since Edwards probably has an idea of what he wants to do.
