If Toho keeps pumping out Shin and Monster Planet level stuff and kills American productions, I’ll be super bummed. The Legendary series is the only thing maintaining my interest in the franchise right now.

Shin is the only film in the series after the mid-60's that has some artistic merit. I'd much rather get more Shin-like films over American blockbusters that are hopping on the cinematic universe train. And going by the reception it got, so would audiences and critics. Monster Planet isn't great, but it's barely setting up a trilogy of films that had clear orgins in TV.

I have to say that I agree with a lot that jelly said. While I don't dislike Shin Godzilla or Planet of the Monsters as much as he does, in my opinion I don't think Toho is going the right direction with Godzilla. Nothing wrong something different, nothing wrong with something new. But I don't believe what they've been doing is the "different" or "new" that I had in mind. But then again, Toho is making money off of both Shin and POTM so looks like they're here to stay.

But on the other hand, what Legendary is doing has me excited like a kid. Sure, everyone is jumping the bandwagon of movie universes, but Legendary is really doing a great job so far with it. I really think and hope that Godzilla King of the Monsters is going to be something really special. 2018 just got here, 2019 is going to be a very long wait!

^ My opinion is the exact opposite of yours!

Since Legendary is providing the classic meat-and-potatoes version of Godzilla I like that Toho's two projects since have both featured separate, radical reinventions of Godzilla. I don't mind if every Toho project for the near future is a standalone, radical reinvention.

Yeah, to my mind, Legendary is providing a reliable safety net that gives Toho the freedom to be more experimental; I doubt I'll ever be really excited about anything Legendary is doing, but I'm hoping it ensures a steady stream of reinventions and oddities from Toho.

Phew. Sorry. Had to vent. Feel somewhat better now. Seriously though... anyone heard rumors or have any educated guesses as to when we might actually expect something in the form of either production art or a micro-teaser... or something?

^I wouldn't count on any peaks at the new film until this summer. I know Comic Con reveals aren't quite as ubiquitous as a few years ago, but maybe Comic Con?
