GODZILLA: King of the Monsters (5-31-19 -NO SPOILERS PLEASE)

And yeah, I agree with everyone else that 2018 is probably the earliest that we will see Godzilla 2 unless Edwards drops out of directing.

I'm hoping 2016 around May. Batman vs. Superman isn't until July, I believe. And I can't think of any other major movies besides that and X-Men: Apocalypse. Space the movies out by a month or so and G2 could have very little competition while still satisfying audiences who hunger for destruction before those movies. As for a title, I am crossing my fingers for "King of the Monsters." This title would make A LOT of sense if they bring in KING Ghidorah, because the movie would pretty much crown who is the actual king. I can already imagine the tagline: "When Kings Collide... Worlds Break."

I can see them fitting in Edward's thoughts of a Monster Island as well. This being explained with more monsters awakening and Dr. Serizawa realizing (once King Ghidorah or his meteor he travels in) is spotted coming to Earth and that the beasts are actually sensing his arrival - this would even account for the Mutos awakening as soon as the cave was opened by the collapse. This could actually open up a door to seeing KG ravage Monster Island and take on the likes of Anguirus and Rodan before Godzilla arrives (maybe the only kaiju TOO tough to be "captured" by Monarch).

As for returning cast, I would LOVE to see Dr. Serizawa again (played by Watanabe, of course). He could takeover the role as the main character as far as I'm concerned. I liked Ford Brody and all, but I don't see why or how he could be brought in a role like that again unless they make a G-Force-esque group.

I do hope we see Maser tech.

I also wouldn't mind opening credits showing how more kaiju have become active in the years following the events of the first movie. I'd even welcome another Muto appearance out of no where only to be plucked out of the sky by the much larger and faster Rodan.

I'm really happy for Edwards, but at the same time... Thus kinda sucks. We waited a long time for the Godzilla movie, and will have to wait that same amount of time for the next G film if they really want to keep Edwards as director. I for one would not mind getting a new director with Edwards kinda overseeing it, and being a producer. Also hoping Tull keeps us informed... It sounds like they have a basic idea for G2... And need to roll with it.

I think the idea of making it a self-contained trilogy is limiting. It's not what I'd do... but if that's the plan? Meh, sure. I could could go along with it.

Wow. That's great an' all they're giving Edwards a crack at something STAR WARS, but... and I think I speak for everyone here, I WANT A GODZILLA SEQUEL A.S.A.P.

I have 0 interest in seeing a SW stand-alone movie. So, without sacrificing the eye to quality, I would be perfectly okay with Legendary getting someone else to helm the next Goji (though, by the sounds of it, that's not going to happen).

I know it says he's still attached to the Godzilla sequels but I have hard time believing he'd return to something like this after tackling Star Wars. It seems like he's going off to bigger and better things. Say what you want about the guy but he has balls, each project he takes on is such a leap in scope. So I wish it was Edwards or bust for the sequel but I have a hard time seeing it.

Well, Tull says they have great things planned for us Godzilla fans..... So I will trust his word. Maybe they'll do a spinoff Rodan film or something based in the same world before G2.

All this talk about kaiju spin-off movies seems pretty unlikely to me. Godzilla is the only real monster with any real star power. I doubt many (besides us fans of course) would want to see Rodan or Mothra without Godzilla also being in it. Right now it seems Tull & co really do want Gareth back for the sequel. Four years does seem like a long time, but I would much rather wait for Edwards then risking someone like Jonathan Liebesman (TMNT, Wrath of the Titans) or Len Wiseman (Total Recall, Underworld series) who might be available to direct it sooner but are total hacks IMO.

I'm also doubting spin offs. I don't think they'd risk that for an audience that wouldn't even see Pacific Rim. While Rodan and Mothra have name recognition, it's not the same as Godzilla's in the US. Also, saying they have "surprises" is so vague it's not worth focusing on.
