Yep, like Dredd. I'm still disappointed by that one, and can only cross my fingers and hope that Karl Urban reprises the role again in the TV series, whenever that actually comes to fruition.

It's been a long time, and since I stopped going to SDCC in 2001 and missed when things got really insane but...I think it's almost safe to say, I don't think any movie footage shown at SDCC ever got a "bad" reception. Fans are just happy to be there and will cheer for literally anything.

My point is that starting in the late 2000s, SDCC started drawing over 100k attendees while the rise of the internet and social media translated into a lot of online chatter, so film studios started pulling out all the stops to make a big impression at SDCC. What ended up happening was that even some really bad movies would draw cheers from the attendees and free online coverage and that didn’t stop those movies from flopping when they eventually opened in theaters. Even some good movies that made a big splash with film nerds didn't catch on with general audiences. It's Snakes on a Plane syndrome. That’s why SDCC isn’t as big of a deal to studios as it was in the past. They used to think that the convention was valuable in terms of promotion and now they’ve realized that it was always just a treat for the existing fans of whatever is being promoted. Speaking of which, I'm excited to see whatever comes out of this year's Godzilla: King of the Monsters presentation.

The only reason the comic-con response was so from G'14 cause nobody knew they were going to do it. As for me I was rabidly anticipated a new Godzilla movie and the lack of being able to see the trailer made me even crazier.

Comic con responses from audiences are worthless. To shameless quote Red Letter Media, "I clapped because I know Star Wars!"

I had a crazy dream last night. Saw a store filled with lots of toys. One of the toys was the new King Ghidorah. It was kind of reddish yellow. I think I only saw 1 head on it though.

It’s a spin on a common theme in Godzilla, to control the monsters somehow be it humans or aliens. Now fandom will start to gripe because we’ve seen similar before, Monster Zero, aliens had control, TOMG, aliens controlled Titanosarus, 1985, bird call control, Miki’s telepathy and GFW controls.
What we have to hope for is it’s fresh for us, the rest of the audience they could look at it as new and (oh they are trying to maybe weaponize the monsters..) which is something that a government could implement.

Hasn't it been kind of preconceived rumor that this film was going to sort of follow a DOM or Ghidorah blue-print? That would check out to me. The bit I honestly found most interesting in that clip was the mention of Doughtery being a pretty dedicated to getting the shot right. I'm hoping that pertains to everything, you definitely got the feeling from G14 that the non SPX shots were all shot pretty quickly, if only from the performances.

Hope the movie's good, but some of these details don't sound promising at all.

I wouldn't mind a Miki-type character that can tell when a monster is coming but communicating with them won't come off well, imo.
