More casting news as Charles Dance of "Game of Thrones" fame joins the Monsterverse and Sally Hawkins is also coming back to reprise her role of Dr. Vivienne Graham! Despite of what some thought about the characters in G' 14, I rather liked the team of Serizawa and Graham.

Saw the clip of the orchestra recording the old Spiderman theme for the Amazing Spiderman.

There is no reason not to include Ifukube's classic themes in the new Godzilla film.

Seen people just assuming Dance will be a villain. Who knows if that will be the case, but I do love the idea of taking a page from the Shinichi Sekizawa playbook and having an actual human villain.

One of the leading presences working to shape Wikizilla had a fun theory that Dance is actually an older version of James Conrad leading Monarch. He admits there's nothing to base this on, but it's a fun thought.

Saying a film is going practical is just bullshit PR that never actually translates to the the film.

^ Despite tons of CGI action and environments I'd say the Guardians movies use more practical effects than most movies made this decade by virtue of the enormous amount of alien characters who are traditional makeup and prosthetic effects.

I started to suspect practical effects being used (for the monsters) in some capacity was a possibility when I found out about Tom Woodruff Jr.'s involvement.

Very exciting, and I kind of love that we currently live in a world where the latest Japanese Godzilla film relies completely on CGI to bring the titular monster to life, while the upcoming American Godzilla film will feature a blend of practical effects and CG. Who'd have thought?

I hope it's a little more substantial than, say, Jurassic World's "look, we have an animatronic dinosaur head in one scene". But then, even that would be more than I initially expected based on the 2014 film and the way big-budget Hollywood films are made today.

Unless there are some much smaller canon fodder monsters, I just can't wrap my head around there being practical Godzilla/kaiju effects in this film. The monsters are too tall and the budget is too high. The only thing I can think up is close up skin textures for some of the characters to interact with. Unless they build 50% scale head props of Godzilla/mothra/Rodan/KG for some trick photography shots and even then I am highly skeptical. I would be ecstatic to be proven wrong though!

Considering the fact that Dougherty's previous two films are basically love letters to practical creature effects I feel that if any one human being could inject some practical creature effects into a Hollywood Godzilla movie it'd be him.

... did anyone else play the game in their head when watching G '14 where occasionally you thought "they could have used a suit in that shot" ? Not that I expect classic monsters suits, of course.

Wingard made a similar statement yesterday that he couldn't wait to show what Kong will look like after almost five more decades living on Skull Island.

These guys are real monster kids, and I think it's pretty hard to resist putting your own spin on Godzilla and the other monsters. I know some folks love consistency, but I love that Godzilla's appearance changes from film to film.
