I'm sorry that you had a bad day at work. That's tough, and we can all relate.
Please try to keep in perspective that being a fan of something doesn't automatically mean that you must love every detail about the subject matter- rather, being a fan just means that you're passionate about it. I think part of why so man Godzilla fans are losing their minds over the new movie is that for years, we've all acknowledged that we love the Toho movies, or at least most of them--- but the bigger picture is that we see the potential in this character and the ideas behind the classic films.
For many of us, G98 is despised not just because it's a lame movie--- but because of the missed opportunity it represents.
I feel the same way about many of the modern Godzilla films: I consider then lazy , iterative and shoddily made when they didn't have to be. I think it's a shame. But it doesn't mean that I love Godzilla any less than you do.
Genuinely, can you imagine what any number of hungry, young film makers might have done with a Godzilla movie and A 12 million dollar budget?
